Debating Cancelling Plex because It cant sync.

I have a Galaxy S9 with Plex on it and I have tried all manner of gymnastics to get Plex to sync to my phone. The app is useless to me if I cant sync to my phone. Every time I try it fails, eventually stalling with all songs on “waiting to be downloaded” and often crashes. I have a Plex pass but more and more this system is looking like a piece of junk. I cant sync my content so where do I spend my money, on Spotify or Plex? I have posted before on this and have been completely ignored. Yes I have tried restarting the server and the app, reinstalling the app, syncing in smaller batches, nothing works. I have browsed these forums and googled until my fingers bleed. Right now it seems plex is saying to me "yeah… we don’t give a darn … ". My guess is that they dont and I need to find another app to use for my media.

There are no support Plex Pass members on this forum. It is only chat with friends. No plex employments here. If some employments go here, they go only for lols and for fun!!!

Well they advertise this as the support forum. So … more reason to ditch them ?

Same here. I came to the forum to find out how I get a refund on my Lifetime Plex Pass for exactly the same reasons. I’ve had it for two weeks and so far plex sync has utterly failed.

What is the refund process?

Try this.

Thanks. Emailed.

Well, at least that was quick! Took under 5 minutes for Plex to respond and refund my Lifetime Plex Pass.

And now we wait, to see whether in a month or two, the Plex dev team can actually fix this shambles.

Ugh, I’m debating the same because, while my music did sync, I can’t play local content without having a dumb**s connection active to my server. If the PC is off - bye bye music! What’s the point of syncing then, saving a few megabytes??

Man…this is frustrating…

I was thinking of doing the same…sync is a core feature and its has so many bugs its unreal…but don’t worry, you can use Plex in VR - honestly, who is going to do that? They seem to focus on new features and ignore the basic features we actually want working!

Interesting, I Sync all the time to My iPhone to listen to my music, (stored Uncompressed on Server, syncs at 320kbps)
i listen local on my iPhone in airplane mode when on a Long haul flight, i have no problems, not quite sure where your going wrong…

I have said many times, Plex Pass is noting but a scam.

The sad part is that they still advertise DVR, Live TV, and Mobile Sync all over the net when they know those main items that people would pay for, just do not work. They are actively ripping people off.

lol. i sync all the time too. Makes me wonder if people are using servers that arent powerful enough to sync or just don’t know what they are doing. I sync all of my sons videos to his ipad so he can watch movies while we are in the grocery store and so on.

I see posts fairly often regarding sync not working…and I’m mostly curious but is the problem primarily on Android devices? I wouldn’t say I use sync very often (mainly when I’m going to be traveling and I’ll use it to download a handful of movies to my iPhone). But it’s always worked fine for me…it’s maybe a little slow but since I’m usually having Plex transcode movies down to a smaller size than the original that’s to be expected.

And to Anijake’s comment…I use DVR and Live TV on a daily basis (via an antenna & HDHomerun) and they both work flawlessly. That hasn’t “always” been the case but at least for the last several months it’s been perfect. However, if your particular setup is having problems I can see how that would be frustrating. I was unable to update my Plex server for months and had to leave it at 1.6.x because of DVR issues starting with newer versions. Like I said though, they got all that straightened out eventually and I’m glad I sprung for a lifetime pass.

It is Interesting, i have been using Plex for ever, and have evolved with it as its got better, but the one thing i have not done is upgrade my server, its a 2009 white Mac Mini(SSD installed), with USB HD for storage, i record Live TV all the time with HDHomerun here in the UK, and i sync recorded Telly and Music to my Iphone 6, iPad 1 and my Fire HD tablet (android) with out any issue at all. as i travel a lot for work i even watch my server remotely in hotels rooms with a Roku 3 i travel with.

Maybe its just a set up error with people systems, even though my kit is really old it works flawlessly, and myself and my shared users never seem to have a problem viewing of my little old Mac Plex Server.

I am not a newbie, I have been doing this for almost 7 years. I am using a MacMini and a few iPads and iPhones . Syncing one worked great, synced my unwatched on deck and when I watch on a iPad the show would get marked watched on the server when I got home, the next episode would get synced over and all was fine.

With the update to Ver 4 well over a year ago it went to hell. No longer do shows watched on mobile devices get marked watched on the server, so now they have to manually get marked on Webb app. Syncing gets stuck or randomly reports a error even though things got synced over. Then a few updates ago the Discover section on the iOS mobile app does not update at all and I have to force quit the app to see what got synced and what didn’t.

I no longer use the DVR function because it is unreliable (HDHomerun Extend), Missed recordings, corrupt recordings, its just not worth the aggravation. LiveTV I rather use the Channels app, Plex just crashes at random and channel switching takes 10-15 sec when channels only 1-2sec.

All this has been reported and confirmed by developers when they contacted me via DM, that was months ago that they said they were working fixes, never heard back never saw any fixes or attempted fixes in any beta releases. Just more of there crappy customer service.

Like I said I am experienced in this and have found work arounds to do what I have to do, but for the non tech people that are signing up they should know what they are getting into.

Iambiepie : I’ll do you one better…my server is an early 2008 iMac. Mine doesn’t have an SSD but I do have 4 FireWire 400 external drives all daisy chained together for storage and a 2nd gen. Drobo (FW800) that backs up the built in hard drive as well as the drive with all my movies. It’s all crammed into a sort of DIY computer rack/storage thing that I hacked together with some shelving and doors from Ikea and some AC powered computer fans that I hacksawed into the back to keep everything cool.

And Anijake…that does seem frustrating! Thankfully, I haven’t experienced any of that. I regularly watch shows and movies on my main iMac, MacBook, iPhone and iPad (both locally & remotely) and everything gets marked as it should, playback position saved, etc. I record a handful of shows every day with Plex DVR and my HDHomeRun Extend. There was a time when Plex did some kind of update that caused several recordings to be corrupted but that was months ago…a subsequent update fixed it and I haven’t had a single one since (and I especially like the recently added commercial removal thing). I also just did a test…watching Live TV in my web browser…it took exactly 5 1/2 seconds to switch from one channel to another. It makes me wonder what could possibly be causing such different experiences? Especially since it sounds like we’re both using similar hardware.
