Plex Playback and Chapters MKV

I using Plex more and more, but for playback of MKV files, I am missing navigation tools, such as fastforward and jump to an next chapter within the MKV file. Plex does not do anything with the chapter structure of a video file, let alone get metadata for those chapters. Any suggestions?

Which Plex client are you using?
Plex Web curently supports jumping to next or previous chapter with a key or key combination:
[ or
alt + ← Step Backward

] or
alt + → Step Forward

the iOS app has even a chapter selection menu.

If the chapters are embedded in a MKV file they are getting read.
If these chapters are ‘named’ in the file, the names are getting read and are used in some Plex apps.
If a video file without embedded chapters has been ‘matched’ to a known movie, chapters and chapter names are automatically fetched from chapterdb.org (if available there).

Here is an example for named chapters: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1329129/#Comment_1329129

Thx, I overlooked the Chapter Settings in the iOS app. It works. For my libraries the match with chapterdb.org is close to 0% and I am not going to input these data manually into the files. So I will have to keep on dreaming.

If you have chapters in your mkv files, they will be available in Plex. If only un-named.
