No chapter selection for movies / TV shows in Plex?

Hi everybody,

I’m fairly new to Plex and have searched the forums, but I wasn’t able to find an up-to-date answer, so I’m sorry if this has been discussed to death before.

I switched from using KODI to Plex when I found out that Plex runs great on NAS systems and has apps on nearly every platform. I fell in love with Plex. There’s just one thing that extremely bothers me. Allmost all of my video files are MKV containers with chapter information embedded. KODI was easily able to jump between the chapters, so I thought this shouldn’t be a big deal for Plex either. Sadly, I am not able to use chapters at all. There’s no button for fast forwarding to the next chapter, only to the next file… nor is there any menu for chapter selection.

Is this a known bug? Oder doesn’t Plex support chapters at all?

I am running Plex server on my Synology DS418+ NAS (with the latest version available for its OS) and I’m using Players in my Browser (Most recent version of Chrome), Windows App (Windows 10), Android Smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S8+ running Android 8) and Tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, running Android 7) and my Samsung 4K TV. None of them is able to process chapters.

Any help would be appreciated. I’d really love to get the lifetime Plex-license, but chapters are a feature I don’t want to miss. :frowning:

Kind regards,
Benjamin

Android mobile has no chapter support, yet.
iOS already has it.
In the web app, you can use Alt+← / Alt+→ to jump to chapter markers.
In PMP (fullscreen mode) you use ↑ and ↓
PMP (windowed mode) uses the same shortcuts as the web app
Smart TV app - I don’t know. Try ↑ and ↓
Windows 10 app - no.

@OttoKerner Thank you very much for your quick reply. I’ll check if these controls do the trick and get back here. I’ll also try Plex for Xbox One.

Besides that, even if this works, I think that’s quite a poor handling for chapters. Are there any plans to fully support chapters with designated buttons for forward / backward chapters or maybe even a chapter overview with thumbnails under a tab of each movie? That would be perfect! I think I found a posting that showed such a function on the iOS client.

There is a general striving for feature parity among the different clients, as long as its technically possible/sensible.
The most advanced client in this regard is indeed the iOS client.

How odd. I know I posted a comment here but it’s not listed and this thread is listed in my participating discussions. Was it deleted by a mod?

Hi again,

CHAPTERS
regarding chapters, thanks a lot for the help. I tried the following:

  • PMP Windowed → ALT+←; WORKS
  • Xbox One S → Up and Down; WORKS

Android, Smart TV and Windows 10 didn’t work, just as you mentioned. Thank you very much for the overview, that helped me a lot!

VERSIONS
I see. I understand that one needs to concentrate on one system as the main system. It’s just sad that it’s iOS, but well.

@NewPlaza I received a notification that you commented this thread, but once I clicked on it, I got an error message that the comment could not be found. No idea what went wrong there.

Again, thanks guys for your help! Have great weekend.

I have no clue… I was just commenting on how the android mobile can’t even play stacked videos. At least the last time I checked. I could be wrong.
