Plex Player Mac HomePod Gen 2 Audio Out of Sync

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9232
Player Version#: v.1.105.1.257-3bc35ab9

In search within this forum and wider across the www, there are various threads about Plex Player audio being out of sync with the Apple HomePod speakers. I have recently acquired a HomePod Gen 2 and also experience the out of sync issue, this is approx 1-3 secs.

I have managed to determine that this sync issue is ONLY between the Plex-player Mac the the HomePod.

My Plex Server is a Mac mini 2018 i7 64GB ram, an external GPU and a couple of 4K/5K displays, the LG 40WP95C-W was the default audio until the HomePod arrived.

I have confirmed that there is no sync issue when using Plex on the iPad or the Apple TV 4K and sending to the HomePod.

Also there is no sync issue if using Plex Web in a browser on the same Mac mini as the Plex Server.

What looks to be required, is for the Plex player Mac to have the audio controls enabled in the UI and / or to be able to select an audio source other than the default of the desktop that the player is running on.

This would then allow the Plex Player Mac to send the audio directly and in sync.

I am having the exact same issue, I have tried so many things, nothing works

I’m trying to solve the same issue. I use a projector connected to my macbook, and airplay audio to a homepod.

There is a well know 2000ms delay with airplay, so when I have media on my machine, I’ll use IINA which allows you to offset the audio in 500ms increments in either direction.

Does this feature not exist on the Plex mac app? If there is no way to set a -2000ms value to the audio, this app can’t work with any Airplay device afaik. Surely I’m just missing the setting?

From what I see, there is no variable option to adjust the audio timing in the Plex Mac client to allow an offset. Even in the iOS client, there does not appear to be that capability.
I have seen something in the Apple TV client but would need to recheck…

What I see is that the iOS / iPad clients perform a sync automatically, so media (movies / TV) and live TV are correctly in sync, no adjustment required
