Plex Playlist function - Does it exist already or is it a possible addition?

Hi - I have a question about the Plex Playlist function.

Is it possible to build a playlist from the Library Folders instead of the individual files?

I basically just want to build a playlist of my favourite shows and have Plex play the next episode from the Library folder in the playlist (or randomly select the next episode from the folder).

I don’t really want to add every single episode of a series to a playlist. If you could simply build ‘Rotations’ using the Library folders and have the option of NEXT in the queue for that folder or RANDOM for the folder that would be awesome.

Then you could essentially set up your own Plex TV Channel to watch and run it 24/7.

Does this already exist or is it something Plex would look at implementing?

Thanks in advance – Col.

No, this is unfortunately not possible.

The closest thing would be a smart playlist similar to this:
(but without the ordering by air date)
which you then play in Shuffle mode.
But in the end it still will go through every episode. And when every episode has been played, you need to reset those shows to ‘unwatched state’.

A simpler approach would be to put your favorite shows into a collection.
Then you create a custom filter in your tv show library and set
‘Show Collection’ is ‘my favorites’
Then click on ‘Add to Playlist’

However, with this approach, it is not tracked which episodes have been played and thus duplicates can occur when the playlist is resumed.
