I use Plex to stream from my desktop to my Sony TV. For the last months or two if I hit the fast forward or if I pause and then resume any shows of movies from my desktop, they then play 2-3x speed. And it will only stop if I start over and play from the beginning. Any suggestions? I am current on updates.
For me, the Server is on a Synology NAS and the player with issues is my mobile phone (OnePlus 7 Pro). Funnily enough, I have no issues on my Android TV Device (Nvidia Shield).
I noticed that it is not happening with every media file but always with files recorded by Plex through DVR (SD TV), which is pretty annoying because I would love to be able to skip commercials in them…
I’m suspecting that it adds to the issue but am not certain: I also noticed that on files that are not “pauseable” the playback marker is confused and switches between the actual playback time and 0:00. Which is additionally annoying when watching DVR Content where the recording started while commercials were running because the “Skip Ads” (I’m using another UI language, so maybe the translation is inaccurate) Button pops up and disappears again probably once every second. Can you confirm this behavior, or is this another issue in itself?
My issue is only on my android TV. It is movies and shows I download to my desktop and then add to my plex through the online page to stream to my TV. Right now, it is happening toe everything I watch. I can’t pause or fast forward anything because when I restart it plays 2-3x times normal speed. I’ve used plex for abut 2 years with no issue but I’m not overly familiar with the details.
Same Problem on FireTV, Mobile App and Android TV. After fast forward movie plays 2-3 times faster then normal speed. When i switch automatic transcoding off, it works well. Server Version 1.25.3.5409 on Windows 10 20H2, i5-8400 and Quadro T400.
After complete new plex server install the problem still there. But i found a workaround for the bug. I set the “Limit remote stream birtrate” to unlimited/orginal in Settings → Remote Access and the limit for “Internet Upload Speed” to max upload rate.
The problem is in LAN and WAN. It happens when fast-forwarding while the video is auto transcoded. On direct play or manuell quality set works all fine.
There is some problem with the transcoder buffer cache files. In some small videos, the speed is 3x only in buffer time. After the buffertime the videos plays normal speed.
Version 1.25.6.5545, WIN-Server2016, i5-8400 and Nvidia Quadro T400.
Tested on FireTV and Android TV Clients via LAN and WAN over hotspot.
