Plex Prioritizing Extended TV Show Episodes

I have multiple TV shows such as The Office (US) with superfan episodes, Parks and Recreation with extended epsiodes as well as Psych. These shows, and I’m sure many others, have extended or differently cut episodes than the ones that aired. When I name my files I’ll name it:

Parks and Recreation S04E06 and for the extended I add: Parks and Recreation S04E06 (Extended)

However, when Plex combines these episodes it prioritizes the standard epsiode rather than the extended one. Is there a way to make it prioritize the extended epsiodes?

Also, because of the major lack of information provided when you select “Play Version” it’s a 50/50 chance you select the right one. Maybe there’s a better way to present the other versions of an episode, but I digress. My first priority is finding a way to have Plex prioritize the extended episodes.

Something I wanted to add was that when you select the different versions of the episode the thumbnails don’t match up because Plex only obtains the thumbnails from the standard episode and uses those same thumbnails for the other editions.

Yeah, duplicate episode feature is mostly for cases where you have the exact same video file, but in different resolutions. If the content is at all different, Plex doesn’t really support stacking those and presenting them differently.

That’s so unfortunate considering how prominent extended cuts, director cuts, superfan episodes, etc are. I’m going to create a Feature Request about it, but I don’t have high hopes.

I hadn’t heard of any supercut or fan cuts of anything for any show. Of all the shows you mention, Psych is the only one I watch. But I’m not that into fan-made content for shows, only official stuff.

I know of alternate endings for the Clue episode for Pysch, but there is a “special” episode on TVDB for the extra endings for that episode.

There’s now a parallel feature suggestion thread by the OP.

Basically this comes down to mixing the concepts of versions vs. editions… the latter not yet being supported for tv-show based content.
