Plex Prioritizing Extended TV Show Episodes

I have multiple TV shows such as The Office (US) with superfan episodes, Parks and Recreation with extended episodes as well as Psych. These shows, and I’m sure many others, have extended or differently cut episodes than the ones that aired. When I name my files I’ll name it:

Parks and Recreation S04E06
For the extended I add: Parks and Recreation S04E06 (Extended)

However, when Plex combines these episodes it prioritizes the standard episode rather than the extended one. Is there a way to make it prioritize the extended episodes?

Also, because of the major lack of information provided when you select “Play Version” it’s a 50/50 chance you select the right one. Maybe there’s a better way to present the other versions of an episode, but I digress. My first priority is finding a way to have Plex prioritize the extended episodes.

Plex doesn’t currently have a concept of different editions for tv shows / episodes. Your files are treated as different-quality versions of the same video.

IIRC Plex will pick a version based on quality aspects and client compatibility (not sure if it’ll fallback to an alphabetical order if the other aspects are the same or similar).

Personally I’m currently opting to treat my non-preferred edition of an episode as a local extra (while keeping my fingers crossed for proper edition support, e.g.

Parks and Recreation
  Season 04
    Parks and Recreation S04E06.ext
    Parks and Recreation S04E06 - Extended Version-other.ext

I think that’s what I’ll end up doing as well. Do you know if any work has begun on implementing edition support for TV shows?

Sorry, no idea. Plex don’t usually share their roadmap.
Are you ok to close this suggestion and comment/vote in the other thread to help us avoid distracting votes (especially with this suggestion being based on mixing up versions and editions)?

Yeah that sounds good.
