Plex Problems on 2017 LG TV versus 2017 Samsung TV

Hello Everyone,

Having a problem with Plex on a brand new LG TV and i have 1 day left before i can return it… so please help if you can

Im running Plex media server on my QNAP 870 pro from Australia. I am currently in the UK.
I just bought two brand new 2017 TV’s for my UK home. The LG TV is a 49SJ810V and the Samsung is a UE40MU6400.
Both the server and the two televisions are using the latest Plex software avaialbe as of 14/09/2017
I tested the same episode of GoT on both the Samsung TV and LG TV over my 5GHZ home wifi. Speed is approximately 15Mb/sec
For testing sake i have both TV’s in the same room, same location, one in front of the other

On the samsung the episode ran perfectly in “original” quality direct play, no buffering, no issues whatsoever. See screenshot attached showing the episode being streamed from the server

The LG on the other hand is a nightmare and buffers to death. On direct play it will play for ~1second then buffer. I reduced the quality incrementally to find out the highest it could play without buffering… 2Mb 720p which looks terrible. See screenshot of the server streaming to the LG TV, it appears as though some transcoding is going on

I ran some experiments on the LG TV, first a speed test on wifi which showed that the adapter is pretty weak only able to achieve 7mb/s download which proved to me the wifi adapter in the TV is pretty weak. Then i plugged the TV in by ethernet, confirmed it got the full bandwidth of 15mb/s and tried the same video… still the same problems.

Can anyone shed any light on why the LG tv is so crap at streaming from plex?
It is a lovely TV and id rather not take it back but perfect plex streaming is an absolute must

Regards

from what i see LG transcode and Samsung does direct play, can you set PM ON LG to direct play to see if buffers ?
