Otto…selecting custom doesn’t solve the issue either…
Could this still be relevant? Plex Media Server always transcodes AC3 5.1 audio to 2-channel AAC when streaming to Roku Ultra - #4 by rljk
I believe you when you say that playback is only in stereo. No screenshot necessary.
The age of the movie doesn’t necessarily tell you which type of audio is actually in the file on your server.
Use Plex media info to find out about that, as mentioned above.
Did you read my previous response?
aahhh…so when it comes to any given movie file…the audio is not always going to be as it was on the released Blu ray disc?
Something just occured to me: are you using your own Plex server with your own media files?
Or are you talking about the streaming media, which are on offer from plex.tv directly?
If the latter, those items are all only available in stereo (to my knowledge).
No, streaming services pretty much never offer Bluray quality. The bandwidth requirements for that would be much higher.
no, I don’t personally have any movies uploaded onto a collection, what I view is what’s on the server
This is something that I was not aware of…you’re the 1st to bring that up
I asked and it was confirmed that the free streaming videos are all stereo.
But if you are using the rental videos, some of these can have surround sound in them.
But rentals are not available in all countries and are of course not free.

Well, how 'bout that?..that tidbit is not made known to users of the platform…that info should be somewhere in the webpage for all to see
thx again for your time & assistance
