I’ve been using PlexConnect for a couple of months without any problems. However, since a couple of weeks the following problem has come up. When playing video using PlexConnect, video intermittently halts (after 10-40 minutes of play). It will look like its buffering, but in fact PlexConnect has stopped responding altogether at this point (when I back out of the video, I get trailers unavailable). Interestingly, when I go to the Plex app on my iOS device, immediately “wakes up” Plex, such that PlexConnect starts responding again, and playback on my ATV continues instantly. I have no idea what causes the problem, but it’s unique to PlexConnect (no other client has this problem: iOS apps and PHT work fine).
PMS is on a Synology NAS DS713+, DSM4.3
PMS version 0.9.8.18 (upgrading to latest version did not fix the problem)
PlexConnect 0.3.1, transcoder set to always transcode (I have lots of subtitles)
ATV3
Does anybody have an idea what might be the problem? The oddest part of the problem is that PlexConnect starts up again as soon as I ping Plex using a different client, but that the problem is specific to PlexConnect nevertheless. Thanks!
Uhm, I always transcode as most of the stuff I play is not mp4 and we usually have subtitles. I did play some shorter kids episodes using directplay and did not see the problem, but can't be sure since the behaviour is erratic. How might transcoding cause the problem anyway? I did also encounter the problem the other day when I turned on the ATV (when nothing was playing). Again, pinging plex using the iOS app brought PlexConnect to life again. Is there other troubleshooting I could do?
I had this happen the other night too. Playback stalled like it was buffering then I noticed my Mini had fallen asleep, seemingly according to the energy saver prefs. After waking it up playback resumed quickly. Plexconnect version .3.1 runs on the Mini (10.9.1). My settings are direct play 40Mbps and was streaming a native itunes format file from an Imac in another room, PMS .9.8.18, OS 10.9.1.
Hm. With "direct played" file neither PlexConnect nor PMS really need to stay awake.
Your iMac should see, that its harddrive is still being accessed, though... why does it fall to sleep despite that activity?
PMS might be able to keep it alive, as it's triggered every now and then for the watchd-timestamp, I don't know, if it usually does (or could) take are of that.

Maybe I should clarify. The file being played and the Pms are on the imac. Imac stays awake. Plex connect on the mini. The mini also has a PMS, but playback was from the iMacs PMS. Mini falls asleep, playback stops. I'll see if I can reproduce it, maybe a fluke.
