Plex removing artists collection tags

Hi, I try to use an artist collection with my favourites ones, but it keeps emptying itself. I saw a topic with the same issue, but for movies, and no solution was given by plex staff :confused:

The only situation I’m aware of that might be causing Plex to loose collections is linked to a bad combination of several circumstances:

  1. your server is configured to automatically refresh its libraries (or doing so on a schedule)
  2. your server is configured to automatically empty its trash after every scan (see Settings > [Server Name] > Library)
  3. your media is stored on a drive that might be temporarily offline during a scan or take some time to wake up from sleep

Plex will actually handle drives that are not connected at all by skipping any updates to your library. If the drive will get available at some point during the scan, Plex considers any previously missed content to have been deleted and will therefore remove it from your library. When Plex re-detects that media during some later scan it’ll be re-added as a new record.

In such a setup I strongly recommend to disable the option to automatically empty the library’s trash (#2)… this way Plex will mark the media as „deleted“/no longer available but it’ll keep the record including any manual edits such as collection assignments.

  2. I uncheck that, but I saw a topic where it didn’t work for movie collections, and testing for 3 days now, same problem
  3. I’m using plex server on a Synology NAS with internal drives that never shut down

I’ll try album collection, but I want artist collections to work too :confused:
