Plex renaming my movies into other languages

Server Version#:1.43.0.10231
Plex renamed some of my titles in foreign languanges. Why would that happen?

is it an mp4 file? if so its probably embedded metadata.

I don’t know if this is related but I had this happen with an actor on a movie.

It is an MKV and has no Russian in the metadata that I can see.

Same with some other files that got changed to Japanese.

What is your library language set to? do you have use original titles enabled?

Inspect the Plex media info of the item.
How many file/folder paths are shown at the top? Only one or several? If several, is one of them an mp4 file?

It is set to English and original titles is on.

There is only one file.

Please post the complete Plex media info XML of an affected item.

10208.txt (74.0 KB)

There is nothing in there which would cause the movie title to be turned into cyrillic letters.

I’d perform an in-depth database repair. ChuckPa/DBRepair: Database repair utility for Plex Media Server databases

Then remove any internet filters and proxies in front of Plex server and let it have unfettered access to the Internet. Then Refresh Metadata of this item.

Hi @BlueH2O

This same movie is being displayed in Russian on my server as well. I have the same settings as use. English + Original Titles. The audio and metadata of the movie file are English.

Did you find a solution?

Other than just renaming them, no. I have posters showing up in other languages, too.
