Plex saved my life - almost literally

I ended up in hospital with a heart issue a few days ago.

Without going into detail, it was literaly life and death stuff.

Spending time in hospital at the best of times is painful as everyone knows.

Hours attached to cables, told to stay in bed and constant visits during the night to check vitals.

I got past the first nasty 24 hours and then faced another few days attached to gear in the hospital bed.

Got my wife to download some shows, movies and grandkids videos to my iPad and bring it in. She isn’t the most tech savvy but she followed the help guides and got it all sorted.

This seriously kept me sane. Bloody awesome.

Back home now and 6-8 weeks recovery so it will be Plex HTPC to fill in the hours and keep me quiet.

Sure, Plex didn’t actualy save my life but it helped.

I’m very sorry you had some heart trouble, and you’re in my thoughts as you continue to recover. I especially love you were able to watch grandkids videos.

My wife had a near-death experience a few years ago, comparable in seriousness to a serioues heart issue. We had just moved to another country and didn’t know the healthcare system very well, didn’t know many people. She ended up in hospital for about a week during one of the big COVID surges, during which time I was not permitted to visit her. We had no idea what her prognosis was – it could have gone the other way – and she was alone and very far from home. One of our lifelines during that time was that I was able to get a laptop to her, which allowed us to do Plex Watch Together. So believe me when I say that I agree with the sentiment that something as silly as a piece of software can be deeply emotionally meaningful and important.

Unfortunately the pure joy and gratitude I have at having a piece of technology that empowered me during that time to keep her preoccupied and happy and even 1% like I was able to be there in person is tempered by the profound disappointment and bitterness that Watch Together has been deprecated and is being slowly removed from active clients because, in the words of an anonymous Plex Employee, “the official release of our new Plex experience that will bring us closer together than ever before.” and thus while they “understand this decision will impact many of you… we appreciate your support and understanding”.

I can echo your experience. When my youngest child was being born I was at the hospital but in a different room. One that I spent nearly 2 months in.

Plex is one of the things that kept me sane as I could stream all of my content to my hospital room.

Even with the goodwill generated by this fact I still felt no choice but to switch after the concerning trend Plex has been following. Everything is about what’s good for their wallet not what’s good for their users.

Whilst this is an open forum I guess I was making this thread as a feel good thread.

When people â– â– â– â–  on your parade it sucks a bit.

I’m stuck on the couch due to pericarditis now so loving Plex. Don’t have any issues with the offering.

@JohnAlex so glad that you are through the worst, and that enjoying some content via Plex made the unbearable a little more bearable.

It just goes to show how important a bit of software Plex is for so many people, all with different circumstances.

Let’s hope that both yourself and Plex have a continued and speedy recovery
