Many users would find having a Watch Together feature in Plex Experience a very welcome addition. There are many people who live or travel far away from their SO’s or friends and family, and having a way to watch with these people near and dear to you would be amazing. I personally have a few friends that I routinely watch content together with on other services and in the previous Plex app. Adding a feature for this in Plex Experience would be something that we thoroughly enjoy.
Watch Together is the only way that I’m able to watch movies with my family in 2 different languages so that my parents can natively understand them. They’re from India and this feature has completely changed how fully they are able to experience so many movies with us. Plex - PLEASE do not take away the Watch Together feature. My parents are getting older and this will completely get rid of our ability to have virtual movie nights together with them. At the most, restrict it to Plex Pass paid users, but don’t eliminate it entirely.
Kinda crazy you guys are removing this. Why bother even sending this alert out? Just make a working replacement for the new experience and just let people try it? How hard is it really to get watch together working? An indie team can throw it together with random github releases so how is it even remotely possible you guys can’t? I’ll even host the watch together server locally on my own server to save you guys any potential long term costs of maintenance but this is just insane. I paid for a lifetime pass and features are being removed every other day it seems like and boring and stupid features are being added in their place all for the sake of $ that won’t even matter when everyone stops using plex. Stop burning the good will you have left.
My wife and I use Watch Together almost every day to connect with our best friends in another state. Having to rely on coordinating timestamps without it will likely make us do it hardly ever. Not sure if possible but I’ll do whatever I can to sideload all clients and version lock my server to prevent the new experience until this feature is brought back.
I’ve updated my post to include a link to this page, but lots of people are verbally voting their concerns of this feature going away over there.
I can’t claim that I will use the feature often but my partner is travelling tomorrow for a month and I was just explaining how this feature means we can watch our shows together still, despite that.
Lifetime Plex Pass user here. This is a critical feature for my geographically distant family, and I’m blocking all app updates as a result until it’s reimplemented in a future app update. As far as I’m concerned this is a regression bug.
Seriously upset at the Plex dev team for dropping this feature. I paid for a lifetime membership so I could own my content and play it locally or with friends.
Now what: I get less features all for a flashy new frontend? No. Roll it back. I’m serious.
A frontend / app experience shouldn’t degrade the existing feature set. I’m all for redesigns and new UX, but not at the cost of cutting corners and removing value from a product.
It’s insane to me that they are trying to remove such a useful feature, but at the same time not surprising watching how the Plex organization has been treating their existing users. I won’t be buying any Plex passes for the users on my server which would have been more licenses purchased than I have fingers across both hands. I cannot wait until Jellyfin takes over. I use Watch Together every weekday and I have for a year now. Thanks for giving us nothing while taking things away Plex team!
My husband and I use watch together quite a bit. Bummer Plex plans to remove this feature, I was planning to also watch together with friends and family for ‘movie night’ when we live in different cities. This definitely put a squash on that. The social features we are being corralled into using are absolutely useless to anyone I know. We shun the social apps and abhor the ratings features - don’t bother using it. This decision makes this app replaceable, imo.
Doing away with Watch Together is a terrible decision and one that should be reconsidered, if this goes through I and I know many other will move away from Plex for a tool that has this feature.
I use it every day with my long distance girlfirend on PC and TV, please don’t take it away!
I don’t want the New Plex Experience.
I want a TV app my parents and grandparents can navigate.
I want my local content highlighted at a glance, not buried under some Libraries section so Plex can push their ad-supported content.
I want features like Watch Together, because thats a social feature I will actually use. Not the convoluted social network Plex is trying to build because 5 years ago we asked for Trakt/Letterboxd integration.
I’ll say it again, I don’t want the new Plex experience.
They shoudl absolutley not get ridnof this feature what about long distance relationships family overseas friends in different states such a good feature
Please don’t remove this feature I love using this to watch movies with my friends who live far away. It is an awesome feature.
If the new experience is meant to speed up development, speed up development of this. I don’t understand the logic of removing it.
Watch Together was one of the main reasons I moved from Emby to Plex. I am disappointed when I heard this news. They really need to rethink this move.
Mook
Adding my vote. Lifetime plex pass holder, getting rid of this feature would be extremely short sited on the developer’s part.
Seriously, why should we be excited about a new experience if we actually lose features? Just delay the update until its ready - as in, has all the features. Is anyone really asking for an update anyway? Im not…
Removing Watch Together diminishes Plex’s value tremendously for me. This is a feature that I use all the time, and its loss will be very disruptive for me, my family, and friends. I have no interest in a new “Plex Experience” that comes with the loss of such a vital feature.
Please reconsider this.
