Hi all,

I’m having an issue where when Plex goes to scan my TV library and it gets ‘stuck’ on a particular series/folder. I’ve waited over a week and the scanner still hasn’t finished scanning the folder.

I’ve tried to cancel the scan, but it fails to cancel. The only way to stop it is to restart the container. The files in the folder are named correctly and only have ~10 30 minute episodes per season, with four seasons, so it’s not a particularly large folder either. I tried deleting the entire show from the disk to see if that would resolve the issue, but the issue is still happening but with a different show/folder.

Things I’ve tried -

  • Thinking that maybe there’s a file somewhere that is corrupt and stopping the scan, I tried deleting all files that were created within the last 30 days (just to be safe- the issue only popped up ~2 weeks ago) but no luck.
  • Confirmed that the library is using the Plex TV Series scanner and the Plex Series agent.
  • Recreated the container (but did not delete the volume that contains the Plex DB and metadata).
  • Optimized the DB and cleaned bundles.
  • Reviewed the logs- it seems to me that it’s the Deep Scan that’s causing the problem, but I could be wrong. I also can’t tell which specific file/show is causing the issue either.

I’ve attached the log files, I would appreciate whatever guidance ya’ll can share!

Thanks in advance for taking the time to help!

My first thought is an encoding issue with one or more files in that library. Depending on the number of files you can either add them in 1 by 1, or use the rule of 50%, add half, if it gets stuck you know 1 or more of those files area affected, remove 50% of the files you added and repeat until scanning is successful.

The logs were removed, but if they point to a specific file, I would remove those files and see if it works.

But odds are you will need to re-encode 1 or more files.
