Plex scheduled tasks + wake timers

So I’m considering setting up a task in task scheduler to wake my pc before I get up.

I have a few things that I’d like to set to run at said time beginning with plex maintenance tasks.

I vastly prefer not having to keep the pc on all night (until plex incorporates an option to run maintenance at its soonest convenience if the scheduled time is missed :p)

I’m concerned about one thing. Does PMS maintenance run if your not logged in? I have my pc set to require a password if woke from sleep.

Hoping if I set maintenance for 6, and have the pc wake at 545 it’ll do it’s thing even though I’m not there to put in my pass.

Anyone enlighten me on the subject?

Plex is running in the “user” context. As such, it doesn’t run at all if there is no user logged in.

If the user is logged in, but the screen is merely “locked”, it might be able to do its thing.

Okie doke I think so long as it just goes to sleep on it’s own; it’s set to “require password upon wake” but it’s technically logged in the same as it was when it was slept. Hence the point of sleep right?

Any way I can test to see if it ran so I know?

Only if you have debug logging activated and then inspect the logs at the time stamp where the butler is supposed to start working.

hrm… how about in real time? Lets say I set the pc to wake at 545. I set plex to begin maintenance at 6.

I arrive at my PC at 615 and enter my password and open the task manager. Would I be able to see it running?

If so, would it display under Apps as an open app, or would it still be the generic ole Plex Media Server (32 bit) under processes just with increased load?

I imagine the whole “run with higher priority if missed (akin to windows maintenence), or run at earliest convenience if missed (akin to macrium)” wouldnt be hard to implement.

even a simple detail to the scheduled tasks section that shows last ran date & time would be helpful.

Does a place exist for feature requests?

thanks for the help & info btw ^^

k, final bit of interrogation then it looks like ill have to do some testing.

the maintenance runs no holds barred right? like it doesnt have a condition to stop if it senses the pc is no longer idle or anything like that?

i’d hate to think its not running, only due to my actually looking for it running.

It is run with low priority. Which will cause it to run these tasks slower, if the server is actually used for playback or recording during the maintenance period.

okay, that certainly wont be the case at 6am  (movies running anyhow)

thanks for all the information!
