Disappointing to hear this “fix” has borked so many clients, surely we can revert to the old method?? @PLEX?
It fixed more clients than it broke, that’s the point.
From earlier in this thread.
This new bug/“fix” might finally be the end of OpenPHT for me, regrettably, unless the fabled Open PHT 2.0 miraculously launches one day…
Despite growing long in the tooth, having potential compatibility issues with the latest versions of Windows and OS X, lacking “hubs” and recommendations, etc… Open PHT with the Plex Black Edition skin is still the slickest, most intuitive, most customizable, and most enjoyable to use interface of all the Plex and Kodi apps/players. But with no upgrades in site and now the loss of basic resume-from-where-you-were functionality crippled… Yikes. Rough times.
If only Plex would hurry up and bring their new “UNO” interface to Windows and Mac OS… That looks like it finally brings Plex Media Player up to an acceptable level, with all the latest bells and whistles (although somehow still lacking basic Open PHT perks like skins and fan-art/photo collection screensavers) , presumably ongoing updates, and at last the return on the old-school Plex / Open PHT sidebar navigation, plus a resume-playback that works and less fear of what will break if one updates to the latest operating systems … Could be time to finally make the switch.
Wish they’d give us a rough timeline on when UNO will roll out to all platforms — or at least roll back their resume-playback “fix” until they’ve got UNO available for the Open PHT audience to jump ship too.
If the skins and the screensaver matter so much to you, perhaps you should look into running Kodi with Plex Kodi Connect. OPHT is based on (an old version of) Kodi so this may yield the experience you are most looking for.
So that means, i must kick “all” my Raspberries with OpenPHT? Thats a joke… a bad one…
Thanks Plex - i like you and your “strategy”…
Hey guys,
Just had the same issue with resuming on my Rasplex and latest version of PMS.
Reverting to previous version solves the issue. I did hard reset my Rasplex for nothing because i thought it came from it
Why deploying such a bad version like this ?
Will stop updating my PMS starting now.
I am a firm believer in if it’s not broken then don’t fix it. I am still waiting for the posts thanking Plex for fixing the resume function in all the supported plex players but can’t seem to find any as of yet or any of users saying it was broken prior so maybe I need to put on my Plex Blinkered Goggles and search harder
Wow, feels like I’m reading some kind of joke.
You guys just raised the middle finger to all customers using a wide range of clients that you know cannot be updated, or it is very hard to issue an update (e.g. Orca’s client)
Not to be too dramatic @elan, but this ‘decision’ actively ruined my mood when watching through Plex, 4 times this week, thinking that I did something wrong and driving me crazy.
Yes I agree Plex don’t listen or care about their users a few good answers in here have been we fixed more clients than we broke and buy a fire stick if your TV client was broken by the so called developers. Apple users have a nice grid guide for Thier Plex client and Android users have a middle finger because they are below apple in the food chain too. They also say they fixed other players and can’t point me to the posts of what players were broken and the thanks posts of users saying wow thank you Plex for fixing player xyz. The only support model is this forum too so just pointing out that fact. I will be the first person to post a big thank you thread if Plex roll back the so called fix. And I work in IT and do a lot of IT support based programming so I understand the programming logic you can easily put in the old code so if player is OPHT or orca then run a procedure etc or just take out the fix that you can’t provide any evidence of it being a worth while fix simple.
Using a TV stick (like Chromecast) or even a non-4K Apple TV requires transcoding on many formats and in most cases the experience is slower and sub-par. Clients like Orca’s for Samsung Smart Hub overcome this by leveraging the TVs’ media player capabilities and (direct) playing back everything smoothly!
Plex is great, so much work has been done over the years, but some business decisions just don’t make sense.
Leave previous API as is, call it deprecated if you like, make a new version for new clients!
Do you really expect customers with a perfectly fine setup (mine is just over 3 years old) to just go out and buy a new device for your new clients because one device in the network stops working properly?
Do you want us to just stop updating the Server and stick with some old version and the constant reminder that “A server update is available” popping up in all other clients like iOS, Android and Web?
All this just ruins the experience, which is what Plex is all about.
omg, so that is the cause i’m unable to resume playback
So is there ANY Raspberry PI client that still can resume, or do i have to roll back now my server aswell
I tried upgrading to Roku Streaming stick, and even though i’m definitely not a fan of the “new” Layout/UI i could learn to “accept” it, but Plex found the need to not have plugin support making the Roku unusable.
So i went back to my trusted RasPlex client. and now with the server update i can’t even use that anymore
I’ve been a long time plex user and i was in love, It was simple “media platform” that provided everything i wanted (tv/movies & pictures) and whatever was not supported could simple be added by using a plugin (which for me is mainly: Twitch & YouTube) and was easily accessible and usable.
Instead of improving the core it went to the cloud, added fluff like a new fancy UI designed for blind people, adding tidal, news, web shows, podcasts & trailers and all more “useless” stuff
Bang on buddy.
Installed new Server v1.15.4.993 and the resume funktion on my Raspberry is still broken…
And now? What shall i do? Which Client is equal to the Raspberry? I dont know… A “big Thanks” to the devs and their dicition…
@zonediver I don’t know much about the rasberry Pi but it at all possible roll back to 1.15.3.793 this is the last version that works with older clients which Plex have said it’s tuff luck spend more money or use a crappy Plex client that works
I know - but this is not possible…
My Server is running in an unRAID-Docker - this is a Container and withing there is the Plex-Server. I have no possibility to role back…
Only way would be to create a neu Docker - but i dont know, how this is working…
I’m sorry for the inconvenience; bear in mind that we didn’t know a priori there were broken clients out there. I’ve seen work on Open PHT and I know someone is looking at the old Samsung app too, so there’s a desire and some movement at least to actually fix the bug.
We’re looking internally to see if there’s a way we can account for the bad behavior on the server side, but that depends on exactly what it is. We’ll check it out.
Thanks for the response. That’s good to know.
Thanks that’s all we want, fix the basic previously working functionality of resume/save state so the old unsupported clients can still function.
This characterization is incorrect. What you are asking for is much more accurately stated as breaking the functionality (violate the API contract) for a broken client that fails to report its playback progress correctly in support of a client that’s unsupported.
OPHT is where a fix belongs. It’s repository is located here: GitHub - RasPlex/OpenPHT: OpenPHT is a community driven fork of Plex Home Theater and it looks like someone is already working on a PR to fix its incorrect behavior: WIP Add new timeline states to try and bring in line with new API by dalehamel · Pull Request #315 · RasPlex/OpenPHT · GitHub
I am all for feature updates , necessary fixes.
No one from Plex has been able to backup the changes with fact, the forum is currently full of negative feedback due to the change you said was necessary to fix other client. I see no posts of people complaining prior to you fixing the other clients, so until you can provide valid evidence of this your comments are falling on deaf ears. Fact:- you made a change which broke a lot of players. I have access to Android app, Kodi, web access via a pc or android and using the server version before you applied the so called fix I am able to resume, save state fast forward, rewind, skip etc on all clients so which client have you actually fixed ?
The factor here is not that the client is unsupported but a change made when not necessary. If you introduce a new feature that won’t work in OPHT then fine but to break the basic functionality is just silly. If someone is able to take the time and fix OPHT for Windows and others then great and I am sure donations will be coming Thier way. Also Orca is broken so it’s not just OPHT users you have alienated and given the middle finger too.
