Resume playback not working for samsung tv client

Server Version#: Version 1.15.3.876
Player Version#: Latest Samsung Smart TV client app

Instead of resuming, from the spot that is shown before I hit play, it plays from beginning. I have been using Plex from this TV for many years and have not had this problem before.
I did switch to DD-WRT on my WRT1900ACv2 router but not sure if this is why.
I did log out of both the server and client and then restarted/relinked them but resuming still failed.
I am a paying plex pass member. Please advise ASAP if there is a DD-WRT router setting that needs to be set.
I was running OpenWRT on my WRT1900ACv2 router as well as the factory Linksys firmware and had no issues with those.

Same issue here at well with my Samsung TV. Do not remember when it started, but I know its been recent. TV app used to resume fine in the past but now every movie I watch on the computer and then resume on the TV will automatically start from the beginning, despite showing a saved resume position at the movie screen.

I switched to the OpenWRT firmware I was using in my other router partition and the resume feature is working again… cancel that… it works for some movies but not others…
I will downgrade my plex server for now :frowning:
If this bug doesn’t get fixed before my renewal date, I don’t think I will continue to be a plex pass member.

It can’t be fixed because there’s no developer to fix it. Sorry.

Same issue here. TV app version 2.012 and server version is 1.15.3.876

Hello Darcilicious
What do you mean by ā€˜it cannot be fixed because there is no developer to fix it’?
No developer at Plex or Samsung?
Regards
Bernard

It was developed by neither Plex nor Samsung, just an individual; and that developer is no longer able to maintain it due to health issues.

A seamless interaction between mobile devices, computers and smart TVs are one of the most important features of PLEX til now. If Plex relies on free developers who will not be substituted after they leave (for what reasons whatever) Plex users will not longer invest in the Plex pass.
So please hire a developer who is able to continue the work on Samsung TV.

Plex doesn’t rely on free developers. Someone decided on their own to develop this app. The vast majority of apps are developed by Plex.

Further it sounds like Samsung is no longer accepting app updates on this tv/OS platform.

Your best bet is probably to purchase a streamer box (Roku or FireTV) which are supported and regularly updated by Plex. Or not. It’s up to you.

Is the source code, for the now legacy Plex Samsung TV client app, in GitHub or a similar repository?
Apps can be ā€œsideloadedā€ on Samsung TV’s. That is how I installed the Emby client app onto my Samsung TV.
If the Plex Samsung TV client app gets updated, it can then be installed using a similar method that Emby uses:
https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/9869-samsung-smart-tv-2011-2014-third-party-app-install-instructions/

No idea, you would need to ask @orca, the developer, if he has or is willing to make the code publicly available. He may or may not still be monitoring the forums.

Hi everybody,
That problem is a server software problem. I downgrade the server to version 1.14.0.5470 and everythings came back right. All the videos now can resume from where it was left on last time I play it back. I found that old version on the web site www.01net.com but you can find other else on some site with few search on many site that offer to download software from.
Best regards…

So this is clearly a server side issue as it was broken by a server side update (down grading confirms old versions of the server side still works). So being a server side issue we should expect an update to address this right? The only reason I have Plex is so I can access my collection easily from my Samsung TVs

That is not entirely accurate.

There was a bug on the server side; that was fixed so that Plex developed/supported clients would work correctly. Unfortunately, client apps that are no longer being maintained were incorrectly coded and now that bug is showing in those (two?) clients.

So is there a plan for Plex to release a ā€˜supported’ version for Samsung? It seems a little crazy that an ā€˜unofficial’ Plex app has been available on these TVs for years and years. It certainly has all the official looking Plex branding. You can understand why users are surprised to find out it’s not supported by Plex

Can the Plex Media Server detect what Plex client app connects?
I took a peek at the logs and saw this, which shows it can detect when a Samsung
TV connects. Maybe that alone is enough :
Apr 20, 2019 22:51:56.573 [9124] DEBUG - [Now] Device is Samsung (TV UN58H5203).
Apr 20, 2019 22:51:56.573 [9124] DEBUG - [Now] Profile is Samsung

pseudo code:
If a Samsung TV Plex client app connects
then use the server code that worked with it
else use the latest code

Same problem here. It started a couple of server updates ago (a few weeks back). Annoying and I hope it gets fixed. We have 3 Sumsung smart Tv’s in the house and it affects two of them. The third isn’t a smart tv - runs a firestick and that’s ok. One solution would be to get a Firestick, but they only work if you have an Amazon account. Not really an elegant solution I admit.

With server version 1.15.2.793-782228f99 and app v2.012 on my J series Samsung, resume works.
I downgraded safely.

Make up the download url for your platform using the version string.

Same problem here, we have three TV’s, two are older Samsung TV’s and are being affected by this. I’ve used this client for years without issue, it plays all content much better than the official app for my newer Sony Android TV, that client looks pretty but is a bit useless when it actually comes to playing content.
