Plex Server 1.15.3.858 and above broke save resume on OPHT, Orca and Other Plex players

The app was sending state=stopped&time=0; it should have sent state=stopped&time=<last time in ms>.

Thanks for the quick response. That makes sense, I assume the pause functionality is where the actual issue lies in that case? I also assume the client sends intermittent progress pings too? Or is this handled server side?

I assume the pause functionality is where the actual issue lies in that case?

I don’t understand the question; we worked around the issue on the server by ignoring times of zero if the state was stopped; both buggy apps we tried had the same flaw.

When can we expect the server side update to be released? I hate to be a pain but I use the resume feature often so having to use my phone or tablet instead of the native app (and TV remote) is very annoying.

It’ll “ride the next release train leaving the station”, which should be on the order of weeks away.

Hi Elan,

Could you please answer my questions above?

I am trying to help you here, we the users are even up for PAYING you to come up with a new app.

I mean the pause / stop functionality within the app is to blame.

What should be sent when playback has finished?

So you want a technology company to put resources into a new/rebuilt app for an undeniably dying platform (pre-Tizen Samsung) on an underpowered system with a useful life of 24-36 months (being kind), while losing approximately 30% of the user base each year to attrition…ummm, no.

“But, we’re willing to pay for it”. No. You’re not. Not even at what it would cost to just break even on it.

ive gone all the way back to 1.11 cuz they kept mucking crap, either my server shows a duplicate server and i need to log out, or now i cant resume playback… progress for the sake of progress sometimes needs to be discouraged… i honestly dont think i ever used any new features added since 1.11 TBH

Seems to be multiple posts out here on the Plex forums with different clients experiencing the same problem since the post 1.15.2.793 update.

Downgrading to Plex Media Server version 1.15.2.793 has fixed the problem for me, it was driving me potty as it would work on the Amazon stick but not the Samsung tv’s. Hoping that Plex will address this soon as I have 3 Samsung tv’s dotted around the house so wont be updating the server until they do. I purchased the Samsung TV’s and the Plex pass, purely to watch the Plex content.

To downgrade on a Windows server, stop the Plex app by closing the icon, and stop the update service from the Windows services, you then uninstall the program from “Programs and Features” Once unistalled the previous versions of Plex can be found in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates (make sure you have the version before uninstalling)

Im pretty sure there are a lot of people who notice it, I have 6 samsung tvs alone that use my system, now I cannot be sure if they all use the 2014 app that I do not know, apparently there is a different app for 2015 samsungs?

state=stopped&time=$offset

I appreciate what you’re asking, but I don’t have specific answers, and unfortunately it doesn’t really work that way; we can’t just collect X dollars until we have enough to support an old platform.

Thanks for the info.

No one asks for continued “support” for those platforms. No one asks for new features for these apps, or updates that would make them prettier, more functional, or up to date with the current official Plex apps.

It’s pretty simple: try not to completely break the experience on old apps.
Sudden bad experience.= grumpy vocal users.

Plex seems to be architecturally sound for the most part. Even very old apps continue to work and that is commendable. This is the case of a bug that was unknown or overlooked and just made its presence known. From what I read a simple, maybe ugly, workaround was enough. So, ummm, no, we don’t need to buy a new device when it’s something simple to fix; we can wait few weeks for an update.

Plex NEVER EVER tries to do that, but due to evolution, sometimes core things are changed, and due to that, things will break!

When said, you can hardly expect Plex to test every 3.Party player, that has been developed over time, since 3.Party is NOT supported

Sorry, I was not implying that Plex would do that intentionally in any case.

LOL you obviously arent in IT or a dev are you? its extremely difficult to QC every platform, supported environment and those who are 3rd party apps (Like Orca). In fact with updated code for the server, its almost impossible to accommodate for older apps that are not in development anymore.

I am having this issue as well and had to downgrade to 1.15.2.793 to get it working again, and hope that the next release fixes a lot of things, Im expecting a large release without features, just fixes.

Plex is doing a pretty good job IMO, considering a lot of their stuff is free, we shouldnt really complain, its $50 a year for god sake LOL

I’m sure one of the next updates will fix this. I have 3 2013 samsungs and the only option is this plex client. Amazon Fire and Roku are not for sale in the netherlands. Apple TV4 is expensive and probably needs other Apple hardware which I dont have.
Even worse my samsung 2013 TVs only accept 2.0 audio from HDMI. None of the current plex devices support SPDIF output Which would result in buying new TVs and 5.1 amps with HDMI input…

No, not really.

Look, Samsung have probably got 40%+ of the high end TV base out there, 90+% of it is likely NOT Tizen at this moment.

Yes, over the next few years, that number will decline, however, most normal people that have spent significant money on an expensive TV do not bin them every 2-3 years, I personally am likely to keep the ones I have till they either (A) fail or (B) something exceptionally better comes along that’s in my budget.

No, I don’t have the numbers for how many of these Non-Tizen sets are currently running Plex (Hi Elan - care to tell us?), but I would not mind betting is a significant number.

Back to developing a new app for them, just how much work do you think this is? if the original was written/tested/submitted/etc all by one guy in his spare time, your suggesting it’s a massive task is laughable.

It would be nice to have Plex put numbers to this don’t you think?
