what is the best Plex server 32 bit or 64 bit?
I’ll wait for the 128 bit version. 64 bit is a 20+ year old technology – so they must be able to do better than that.
Sorry… I couldn’t resist
This shouldn’t that big of a question. If you have a 64bit system with a 64bit Windows, you’ll probably go best with the 64 bit app. The 32bit app should run just fine based on how Windows handles things.
If you use Windows 11 or a server edition based on Windows 11, use the 64 bit version of Plex server.
I use Windows 10 64 bit and the Plex media server is 32 bit, better change it to 64? if you have any improvement?
Unless your Windows is only 32bit (very few are), I recommend to use the 64 bit build of Plex server.
HDR to SDR Tone Mapping
- 5 Only valid for the 64-bit release of Plex Media Server, v1.29.2 or newer. It does not work in the 32-bit release.
It’s worth noting that most HDR content will be in 4K resolution. If your platform has to use software transcoding to perform the tone mapping, then it may well struggle convert 4K content in real-time, unless you’re running on a very powerful system.
I’ve been running 64-bit since it came out of beta. Not a single issue. With the 32-bit version, PMS would crash occasionally.
Server 2016 here.
upgrade to the 64 bit version and now it takes 16 seconds to start a transcoded playback and with the 32 bit version it takes only 5 seconds to start
because?
could be memory usage - with 32-bit apps we are capped at 2Gb for the process - but high memory usage if it is happening would need to be investigated with logs with LogMemoryUse setting with value 1 added
