Running the fastest Plex Server. Woke up this morning to find my library had disappeared. However, I can’t even add media because the Plex server is telling me that in order to add media, I need to install Plex server. Any clues?
this issue started with me as well last night been trying to fix it since last night with no luck someone please help!!!
Don’t know if my problem is related to yours? But…i also can’t open plex media server anymore on my Mac (Flex server told me also i needed to install Plex Server). This problem dates from a few weeks ago. My Mac is running on macOS siërra version 10.12.6. What can i do? (I’am Dutch by the way…:).
Try opening Plex via the Browser rather than by the Plex Icon in menu bar.
Thanks for your help! That’s indeed possible. Only than…when i want to add ‘my media’ i can’t get to my files on ‘C drive’. (see picture)
…the only possibility is ‘to get de plex media server’ !?This made no difference for me. going to https://app.plex.tv/desktop# still asks me to install Media Server.
I had exactly the same issue a month ago, only fix for me was to uninstall and reinstall Plex which I wasn’t thrilled about. Sorry no help I know.
i’am on Mac. Same situation here as eurisko67-gmail-com says in the next respons…Still get the question to install Media Server (which won’t start up…see my original question). I can’t select a library!
If PMS is actually running (Plex chevron in the status bar), try accessing the server using a private browsing window in Safari:
http://[ip address of server]:32400/web
If PMS is not running, it might have been blocked by Gatekeeper for some reason. Check the Security & Privacy → General settings on your Mac to see if there’s a pending permission request.
I’ve already tried the general settings for blocks etc. I found how to use a private setting. Don’t know how to find the [ip address of server]?
That’s the IP address of your Plex Media Server (your Mac).
You through me naming a drive “C” Drive, with Mac your Drive is called a Volume and can be named anything. in my case “My Plex”
So find your Volume. “Computer Name”/ Volumes/ “Your Drive”.
By any chance is this drive a Windows Formatted drive, like NTFS. To find out right click on drive/ get info. Also make sure you have Read and write permissions on that drive.
System Preferences/ network/Ip address
