I have downloaded Plex Media Server and installed it on my Mac. When I Open Plex and go to My Media it says I still need to Get Plex Media Server. When I go to settings I do not see my local machine as a server.
I don’t understand how I was able to install plex, open the application, get to the page for it, and Plex then tells me to install Plex.
Is this your first time installing a Plex server on this Mac?

You have accidentally downloaded Plex for Mac which is a player. Which is good as it plays almost any Video file.

I followed all the forums for when this happens after you uninstall and reinstall and log in with a different account, they did not work.
So you uninstalled Plex correctly by removing files from the root library. The one in the Go menu.
Follow the instructions @SE56 posted above. Though I found that I only had to delete or move ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist and restart. Not deleting the Plex related directories in ~/Library/ , as described in the article, will preserve any library mapping you may want to keep.
After restarting your Mac and starting your Plex Server it should now be unclaimed from whatever account you had it tied to. Make sure to sign in with the account you intend to use.
Yeah one of the other forums mentioned this. I navigated to the application support library and deleted the plex folder and tried reinstalling.
This didn’t work either. Deleted everything, rebooted, created a new email and tried looking in but am seeing the same error.
@zacholsonllc_gmail_com If you are still observing this issue can you please provide your server logs and a screenshot of your Settings page?

Please check the Settings page in any of the Plex accounts you’ve created. Going forward pick one email/Plex account. I believe the issue is likely that this server is associated to a previous account.
Same for me. Plex Media Server stop running on my Mac (macOS Mojave 10.14.6). The app don’t open.
