I download Plex Media server, move it to the applications folder, launch Plex , then go to “+ Your Media” and whatI see on the right side of the screen is “Get Plex Media server”, but I already am in the Plex Media server, makes no sense, keeps going in circles, cannot add my media, what am I doing wrong?
How are you accessing your Plex Media Server?
In order to complete the setup you’ll need to open the server directly. If you’re on the same Mac that’s running your Plex Media Server… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in Safari. If the Plex Media Server is running on a different device in your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead.
During initial setup you’ll be asked to assign a name to your server and it’ll help you creating your first libraries (which you can also change/modify/do-over at some later point).
Once the setup is completed and the server is linked to your Plex account you can also open it via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
But, again, when i go to “+ your media”, back to square one
During the initial setup, I was not asked to name my server
I previously had Plex working, then it stopped working so i removed everything plex related, and started fresh and am just going in circles, very frustrating, any help is super appreciated
I just noticed by your forum name you’re using Sign in with Apple and using their privacy protection / anonymization…
There’s a specific procedure of how to use Sign in with Apple while enabling Plex to recognize this is your account. I suspect you previously installed the Plex Media Server so currently Plex considers you’re trying to access someone else’s server.
Tom, maybe, that apple id account is a brand new one I created so it would be a fresh server install, however, i logged out of that account on the server, logged into my old account and now its discovering/scanning my libraries, but prior to this, I was using my old account and it wouldn’t discover/scan my libraries, so i created the new account…so i still don’t know what the issue is but it seems to be scanning currently on the old account…wierd? or do you think there’s a logical explanation?
I am having exactly this same problem - I never see “server setup” or anything like that, and clicking on the +my files or whatever it is, shows the page with “get plex media server” which I’m already running! So stupid! But mine never suddenly started indexing my machine so now what?
Not using the private contact login, just the plex one.
If I use the local machine address, it adds “index.html” to the /web address and then I have to choose a user which I do. At that point, it goes into the regular Plex screen showing all the various programs available. So even though I’ve deleted everything I can find on my system that seems related to Plex, it still apparently thinks it’s still set up somehow. I need to learn how to completely delete all the setup info and start over.
BTW, if I try this on a different user that has never had Plex installed it does work correctly so clearly Plex is leaving user files behind somewhere.
I would try to completely remove all server related files from your mac (assuming you have a mac, if not still do the same), re-install, and login with a new account (create a brand new local account - do not associate with apple login etc.) & see if you get prompted to add libraries, do message with what happens next for you!
Also when you remove, wipe Plex off , outside of server, there be log files etc etc. …make sure you find all files and delete them, there will be a bunch of files in User/your_username/Libraries/Application Support path if on a mac as well outside of User/your_username/Applications , and also User/your_username/Downloads sections, wipe all elements off and start fresh
