Plex server behind another router in home network

Hi,

Up until today both my media server(plex running on windows) and client (plex app on apple tv) was running on the same private network(192.168.1.x) without any issues.

I had to install another router in my home network and now plex server runs behind the router. (192.168.2.x) The client (192.168.1.x) cannot connect to server.

How should I proceed to solve this issue?

Thanks

You need to avoid “fracturing” your home network. A “router”-type of device is usually designed to do eactly this.
Remove the router and replace it with a “repeater” or “access point” type of device
OR
Switch the second router into “access point” mode, so that it doesn’t perform NAT, and disables its own DHCP server etc.

If the regular firmware of this router doesn’t allow that, consider replacing it with one of the free alternatives, like Open WRT, DD-WRT, Tomato etc.

P.S. if the second router was not added for improving the WiFi range, but rather just for its additional Ethernet ports, consider swapping it out for a regular (unmanaged) Gigabit Ethernet Switch (you can get 8 port-models for about $30).

Switching to access point mode did the trick. Thanks for your help

Best Regards
