Plex server blocking internet access on my desktop?

Server Version#: 1.40.0=7998
Sorry, but absolute newbie question (and I did do forum and google searches beforehand). Is it possible that Plex would block internet access on the machine it’s running on for other applications (Thunderbird, FF, Chome, Zoom, etc.)? When Plex is running, I get timeouts for those apps, then I’ll quit Plex, and they will be running again. As background, I’ve mostly used Linux Mint for the last decade or so, where I had MediaTomb/Gerbera running to serve media files on DLNA. I received a Windows desktop from someone recently, and I thought I’d put a media server on it also (in addition to using it as a normal PC). I googled Windows alternatives, and ShareX popped up as the first option. Installed that and didn’t like it, so removed it and moved onto the next option on the list, which was Plex. Right away I saw that this is 10K times more sophisticated than Gerbera and wanted to start playing with it, but right away it started causing internet traffic problems with my other applications. They all start timing out when fetching pages/email when Plex is running. There’s nothing unusual about my machine: Windows Home 11 with basic office-type applications installed. I have a few incoming ports on my router redirected for openvpn and such, but can’t think that matters (famous last words). Anyone else seen something like this? Thx in advance.

Does your ISP have any kind of advanced security settings on your account? If so, try disabling them.

This post mentions Verizon FiOS and CenturyLink. Might apply to other ISPs as well.

Ah!!! Thanks so much. I didn’t have time to read the whole thing yet, but - yes - I have CenturyLink., and it sounds like that’s the issue, because the behavior sounds almost identical. I’ll re-install Plex (I’d given up on it, the problem was so annoying) and then check out the router settings. Thanks again.

Yep. That was it. I had never even seen that “cyber security” section in the CenturyLink router setup, but disabling it made the problem go away. Thanks for your help.
