Whenever I download Plex Media Server it shuts down my internet on my machine. Not the whole network, just the machine I download it on. I’ve tried this with my desktop (Windows 11) and my laptop (Windows 10) and the same thing keeps happening. Once I uninstall the media server, my internet starts working again. Is there some kind of plex setting that can fix this? Is it maybe on my ISP’s end? A windows setting perhaps? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What is not out of the ordinary for them may not be ordinary for most folks. It’s ordinary for Comcast to block ports Plex uses with their secure browsing software for example and they would not say a thing about it.
but we can wait to see what @Lazh02 is using. Other than that would need to look at server logs to see if it is doing something not normal.
I’m have been having the same issue. Pretty much haven’t been able to watch anything for the past 2 week b/c of this. I have Centurylink. Tried it on my brothers computer at his place using Cox and wasn’t working there either.
Have provided server logs and ping test logs on other thread for BigWheel. For others, I’ve been able to eliminate by both disabling Remote Access and checking the Run Scanner Tasks At Low Priority under Library. Having one or the other reduced internet downtime from 4 min to 10 sec.
How do I send you the server logs? I downloaded the zip file but I don’t know how to get that info to you without just copy/pasting all these 30+ files.
CenturyLink doesn’t have any built in protection. McAfee is a optional addition to customers. I turned off all antivirus and internet protection programs on my computer and still whenever opening Plex Media Server my internet connection is terminated.
Thanks OttoKerner for your effort in providing the forum links. Disabling the Cyber Security setting in the CenturyLink router restored the use of PMS. I should have considered my recent change back to using the CenturyLink C4000XG router caused the problem. Thanks again.
It would appear that sometime in the last 2 weeks, the ability to disable the “cyber security” function is no longer available - or they have moved the function. I had found it after you posted this, but it is now not even an option in the Advanced Settings for the C4000XG.
