Been using Plex fine for years and last night I did a Windows update, then I get a bunch of errors when I rebooted, and now Plex doesn’t work. I can’t repair/uninstall or reinstall using the latest installation package from the Plex site.
The Server Setup gives the error 0x80070643 when I try to reinstall. There are a lot of errors it throws now depending on what I try. I could post them all if it would help, but maybe this is a known or familiar issue?
Honestly not even sure where to start debugging this…
It referred me to the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter which I ran and it gave me a list of programs to remove. I found Plex and let it rip. It went on for a few minutes to the point where I thought it might have been hung up but it eventually did unistall Plex. I then went to add/remove programs and used the regular Windows uninstaller which I think basically just removed the shortcut icon but at that point Plex was no longer listed as an installed application.
Then I tried to run the latest installer downloaded from the website but it was still breaking on installation saying it didn’t have access to install some piece. So I rebooted my computer and on reboot Windows said that it was repairing my media drive. I don’t know why exactly it needed to do this but it completed successfully. Then it told me it couldn’t mount all my drives but I checked and they were all there. So I rant the installer again and that time it worked. Now Plex is back up and running!
I know that’s a lot but maybe it’ll help a poor soul in need some time in the future. Good luck.
