Am building a small plex server (unraid or omv) and was have a few options of what hardware to purchase.
In general i direct stream everything at home, but lately i have been watching alot of anime where subtitles are transcoded in. We also have 2-3 users out and about using the mobile version of plex so some transcoding will be required.
In general motherboard and memory prices are around the same range for intel and amd variants so i was wondering what should i pick. I also have a lifetime plex pass so hardware transcoding is possible
The options i have are
- Intel I3-9100 - $200 Aud
- Ryzen 1600 AF - $ 180 - i have a spare RX-570 available
- Intel G5400 - 100 AUD
- Ryzen 3200 G - $165
In terms of transcoding i know the intel variants are supported by hardware transcoding, but the ryzen variants probably have the grunt to do it in software.
So i guess my question is which should i pick?
