I am experiencing the same issue. 6 crashes since May 22 (v 1.43.2.10687). Server is operational on restart but it is crashing (was rock solid before this update - no configuration changes since the update). I can share the crash log / dump file if it helps track down the issue. Don’t want to risk downgrading if I can help it
Trying to attach logs as per help article but it says too large. Hasn’t crashed since 7:00am (ish) on May 23rd. One change I did revert back was Strict TLS checkbox that was checked on - set to unchecked now. That change was made successfully it seemed around May 19th. Could be nothing but no crashes since I unchecked that box. Before the update on May 22nd server was rock solid for years.
You need to re-enable debug server logs, then re-start Plex Media Server.
Do not enable verbose logs.
Settings → server_name → General + Show Advanced
After the problem re-occurs:
- Start Plex Media Server
- Wait 3 minutes for it to log the startup sequence
- Pull server logs (settings → troubleshooting)
- Post the entire zip file to the thread.
Okay - ready to go with debug (thank you). Still no fail since Saturday morning. But will send logs if it does.
Just had another crash. Generated the logs through the troubleshooting but the zip is 25MB. I did backup the Plex Media Server.log (pre-reboot), Plex Crash Uploader.log, and have the log and the dmp files listed in the last crash upload (these would be under the 8MB limit). Are they useful to you? Also I am sorry for hijacking pcreapers post but I didn’t want to clutter the forum with the same issue
Put Plex Media Server.log through Plex Media Server.5.log in a separate .zip file and upload to the thread.
Also, check the Logs directory in the Plex Data Folder to find out why the zip file is so large. The default is five rollovers for each log file (Plex...5.log), with a max size of 10 Mbytes/file.
You can delete the contents of the Logs directory (stop Plex first). Plex will re-create them as needed when it restarts.

Plex Media Server.2.log through Plex Media Server.5.log are 10.5MB
Plex Media Server.log is 379kB

A user attempted to stream [redacted] to their iPad.
Plex needed to transcode both the video and audio.
Plex could not find the file.
Shortly afterwards (less than a second), the transcoder crashed then Plex crashed.
A missing file should not cause Plex to crash. There should just be an error message along the lines of “file not found.”
There could be other things going on, but start by checking the file is OK, the drive is OK, etc.
Some things to check:
- Does the file exist?
- Can you play it OK in Plex, w/ VLC, etc.?
- Play it and force a transcode and see what happens.
- If V is a local drive, run chkdsk to make sure it is OK.
- If V is a network drive, make sure the network connection is stable.
Thank you for the quick response. The file was replaced by a different copy 4 days ago and a scan libraries action had not yet been triggered. Scanning now and will get user to play again when scan is complete. Good to know what happened as it didn’t seem like a widespread issue. I will post with the resolution when I hear from them. Can you please scrub the file name and file from your reply now that it has been identified? Thanks again

Now that a fresh library scan has been completed, I can confirm that episode is playing now without crashing the server. Again, than you so much for your assistance. To summarize for the plex employees so a try/catch block can be added, a recently deleted library file in a stale library (no refresh triggered) tried to transcode the audio and video stream and caused a server crash. Automatic crash reporting was on so hopefully there is enough information. FordGuy61 - you rock!
No need to be sorry this is all good info. I still have not had another crash yet…but now that I think when the crashes happened I’m pretty sure same sequence of events could have happened on my side.
