Plex server creating jpg files in Temp folders

Server Version#: 1.41.0.8994
Player Version#: N/A
Platform: Windows

Plex Media Server appears to be creating .jpg files of videos from my media libraries and they do not purge on their own. I looked at Temporary Files created on Server and it seems be pretty much the same but maybe different at the same time? My libraries only have media in them. Transcoder temp is on a different drive, as is the Plex config and media.

It is creating temp jpg files in 2 different places on the boot drive, which is causing the boot drive to be filled up unless I clear them out either manually or by a scheduled task. Any way to ultimately resolve this so that it doesn’t create them at all?

Thank you in advance

Your server will store a load of assets related to your library content in the server data directory. This is usually stuff like posters, backdrops/thumbs – your server needs those to avoid creating those on-the-fly (which will impact your server’s performance).
What’ll easily eat away your system drive’s storage could be video preview thumbs. That’s the pics you’ll see on the player timeline or your server dashboard. You can either disable those from being created at all (=no previews in the apps) or you can use some of the server’s hidden settings to reduce the amount of preview pics by expanding the interval.

See GenerateBIFFrameInterval in https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/ (this should only apply to newly created preview thumbs).

Thank you for the reply but please pardon my ignorance, I don’t think that applies to the situation at hand but I will apply it and see what happens. Just for reference, I have uploaded a screenshot of the Temp folder. I honestly don’t think the files should be going here.

Those are individual video frames used during credits detection. They should be cleaned up automatically.

Thanks for the reply. Do you recall if there is any sort of interval or time frame when it is suppose to delete the files automatically? I only ask because, like I said before, I have scheduled task to delete the files before my backups run to keep the size down but they come back soon after and through out the night/day.

No, check the Plex Media Server logs.

The logs didn’t seem to have anything useful that I could tell but I think I may have figured it out. I am going to monitor it further and will post what it was if interested.
