PMS regulary generate music jpg cover in /tmp

Server Version#: 1.31 but happen since several versions

Hi,

Since a few months, i regulary find all my JPG music albums covers in /tmp of my debian NAS server.
They seem to be created during a maintenance operation as they all have a creation date at 3:30 AM.

root@home-server:/tmp# ls -al

What’s the point of those files? cache files?
Is there a way to stop this ?

Regards,

Have a look at this thread → Music jpg's being created in /tmp

In short this is expected behaviour and more details can be found in that thread.

Hi,

Thanks for the infos. The thread is clear. At every metadata updates, embeded covers are extracted (for what?).

But from what I can see, it’s a rather strange “Expected behaviour” as in the linux/unix world (even in windows), apps or services should delete their temp files in /tmp by themselves at the end of the metadata updates and not count on any OS action or reboot to do so !

For me, this maybe can be consider as a “bug” as it doesn’t follow the OS rules.

Regards.

My understanding is that the embedded artwork is extracted (using tmp as the initial location to perform the extraction) so that it can then be stored inside the plexmediaserver once successfully extracted.

I’ve also set /tmp to purge daily and I also removed all embedded artwork from my music media and use local assets on disk with my albums (cover.jpg) instead. Its much faster for the scanner as nothing needs to be extracted …
