Plex Server Excessive Bandwidth when scanning for first time

It’s minimal after the initial library load. Not even a gigabyte a month.

What Plex is doing is download part of the file, to run the initial file analysis on it (so it knows if it’s 720p, hevc, h264, hdr, sdr etc.)

This requires downloading a chunk of the file, depending on your setup (i am assuming rclone) - then you can alter it’s settings, to only download chunks of the file (i personally have mine downloading 16MB chunks) - this leads to a much lower amount of traffic being downloaded - but it will still mean downloading a ton of data until everything has been scanned.

Plus it takes a ton of time on the initial scan.

Why it doesn’t just look up all the files, attach metadata to them, and then schedule the mediainfo scan for a later time, i dunno - but that’s how it should be tbh

Would mean you could delay (or disable) the mediainfo for a later time, or do it in chunks or when a video is looked at - instead of ahead-of-time.

Great feedback!

Out of interest, where do you set the 16MB?
