Running Mac server v 1.26.1 on Apple Studio (M1 Max chip) Apple silicon. It seems that recent encoded videos in m4v format don’t play at all on Roky TVs or devices. I get a “multiple playback errors” on these files on ROKU devices only, not Apple TV streaming boxes. All MKV files play fine on both devices however. Are there any clues as to what is happening with the m4v files on ROKU? Some older m4v files play ok on ROKU, just not recent ones.

Never had much luck with m4v files myself, and I tend to convert them. Not very helpful but might be worth converting your content to mp4 and only download new content in mp4?

M4V is an Apple-specific container. It’s like MP4 with an accent.
It’s likely that remuxing them into a new container file will be enough.
Try disabling Direct Play on the Roku but leaving Direct Stream enabled. Plex will remux on the fly.
Or try remuxing them into MKV manually. Remuxing Files to MKV | Plex Support
