Plex Server ignoring some of the files

Hello,

I have an issue with plex server. Some of my files in the “TV library” does not get added. I have tried to add them manually by selecting the folder itself with the files within it also, but the files do not show up in the library. All files are .MKV

Example of filename:
planet.earth.part01.720p.hddvd.x264
planet.earth.part02.720p.hddvd.x264
O.J.Made.In.America.Part.1.720p.BluRay.x264
O.J.Made.In.America.Part.2.720p.BluRay.x264

I should also state the the folder structure is like below

/TV
/Planet Earth
/S01
O.J.Made.In.America.Part.1.720p.BluRay.x264
O.J.Made.In.America.Part.2.720p.BluRay.x264
O.J.Made.In.America.Part.3.720p.BluRay.x264

Anyone have a clue how to get theese added to the library?

Thanks!

By using proper file naming.

I think i have found the solution for this. I changed the filenames to Planet.Earth.S01E01.720p.HDDVD.x264 etc. Instead of the “Part1”.

Its still not right but is much closer. You will keep running into problems in the future unless you adopt the naming convention in the link in my previous post. A program called Filebot will help.

Sorry HitsVille,

I didnt see your post before i wrote that i found the solution. I will take a look at filebot. Thanks alot!

No worries.
Filebot can use the TVDB (TV) and TMDB (movies) , exactly the same as Plex requires.
It will usually totally eliminate manually retyping file names. Totally free and totally awesome.

But only if you tell it so.
How to do that is explained here: Filebot

Yep. Hence I said “can” and not “will”

Yes. I thought we should warn the users right from the beginning that just by using Filebot, they won’t be getting perfectly named files.

Very true. I must admit that although I have been using Filebot for a very long time I only very recently stumbled across it’s {Plex} schema.

You don’t necessarily need to use the new {plex} schema. You can also construct a fitting schema the old way.
But anyway, you must make an adjustment in FileBot, away from its default setting - at least for tv shows.
