PLEX Server Keeps Stopping Under Load

Server Version#:1.43.2.10687
Player Version#:4.159.0
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

I did a search to see if I could find an answer before posting but everything I found did not work. I recently had to send my Synology DS2415+ out for maintenance/upgrades (now has 16GB of ram) and had to add another volume to my server because I went beyond the maximum 109GB. Ever since I have done this PLEX has become unreliable/unstable. All of my libraries (except for 3) are in the same volume as the program. It seems as soon as there is any kind of a load on the PLEX it just shuts off. It doesn’t matter if its getting new/updating metadata, scanning folders or any of the other common things it used to do without a problem. I upgraded to the latest server version when I put it back into service. I did make the mistake of deleting the old source folder when I was reassigning new folders in the volume so I know that is causing some of my metadata issues and it will just take time for ti all to right itself. I turned off all of the settings that cause additional load, such as generating video and credit markers, generate voice activity data. I do not have any audio files in my library. I am also not having anything transcoded. I also noticed that some folders it does not sense that files have been added and even after forcing a scan the new files that have been added are not sensed, this is volume agnostic. I know it is not my naming convention as I have been using this for a long time and know how to name bot TV and movies. Here is an example of both:

Mountain Men S01E01 - Winter Is Coming

Crime 101 (2026)

What am I missing? I travel a lot and rely on my PLEX when I am traveling. But right now I cannot rely on it.

Thanks

Ensure Plex is configured for debug server logs (default).

After the problem reoccurs:
1 Restart Plex Media Server
2 Wait three minutes to capture the startup sequence
3 Pull server logs.
4 Post the zip file to the thread.

I knew I had forgotten something. Sorry about that here they are.

Thanks for the log files.

You’ve exceeded the number of folders that the Synology can monitor. This is very common on Synology NAS (it appears in the Plex log files as an out of space error).

This may not be the cause of Plex crashing, but it needs to be addressed (fix the obvious stuff first).

Follow Synology FAQ 16: Increase the number of folders Plex can monitor.

You must reboot the NAS after running the FAQ, as this is a change to the Synology OS, not to Plex.

Also, you will have to re-run the FAQ after Synology OS updates such as updating from 7.1.1 to a more recent release such as 7.2 - 7.4.

If Plex crashes after running the FAQ, restart Plex, wait three minutes, then pull & post a new set of log files.

I have all of my movies in alphabetical folders (0-9, and A-Z) would it be better to start with putting all of them in one folder to see what happens? That would reduce the number of folders immediately. I do the same with my TV shows and all of my other sub folders. Should they all just be in one giant folder to reduce the number of folders that it has to monitor?
Thanks

Even if those things dropped the NAS below the limit, they’re just postponing things.

Run the FAQ.

I had to with my DS918+. Best to fix, rather than avoid, the problem.

Ok i just ran the script. I will see how it does in the next day or two. I will stress it here in a little while to see if I can get it to crash like it did previously.

Well that lasted less than 20 minutes. All I did was ask it to scan library files. I do not know how far it got before it crashed. I asked it to scan when I waked off to eat and when I came back it was not running anymore. Here are the updated logs after I ran the script to increase the number of folders it can monitor, restarting the server and scanning the library. I allowed it to run for a little over three minutes before I pulled this set of logs.
