I don’t want to send you down the wrong rabbit hole … even if Plex is now behaving slightly differently, the “exceeded thermals” messages come from the system itself.
I think we’re all encouraging you to check that out as an underlying issue.

If you use
apt, isn’t it justapt install plexmediaserver=<version>?
That gave me an error, “Version ‘1.24.5.5173’ for ‘plexmediaserver’ was not found”
I tried 1.24.5 and 1.24, same error.
I checked versions available online via apt-cache madison plexmediaserver, and the only one that shows up is the latest 1.25.2.5319-c43dc0277, so I guess I can’t downgrade that way.
Yeah I understand, I will check that too, but something definitely is different from 1.24 to 1.25 that has changed the way Plex works in my system. Up until this point, I have not had a single problem with Plex, and everything was working fine.
Which Mac Mini please (Year and CPU) ?
PMS 1.25.x introduced the new transcoder which added support for all the newer processors as well as preparing for upcoming features to the PMS core itself.
He mentioned this:
So it’s a 2011.
Thanks.
I’m trying to put the workload vs CPU passmarks into the relationship.
Essentially we’re dealing with the i5 equivalent of a modern NAS box.
This is a dual core, hyper threaded machine. It will get the job done but won’t break any speed records.
That thermal throttling is going to kill the performance it has (as much as 50%)
Optimist. Those things throttle down to 800Mhz. ![]()
I guess at this point we need the input from another 2011 Mac Mini user
I gave up on my 2010 Mac Mini a while ago, but I’ve still got another Core 2 Duo (non-mobile) machine rocking Plex just fine. Slowly, but fine.

I’m always optimistic. Why else would I come to the forums ?

Masochism, surely?

OK as expected, after turning off the advanced music analysis on scheduled tasks, the Plex server woke up normal.
I’m going to figure out how to get back to 1.24
[edit] 1.24…5.5173 installed, now will wait to see how the server wakes up tomorrow. Enabled audio analysis again.
