Plex server metadata folder

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi,

My hard drive died so I had to do a fresh install. Now, my Metadata folder is not on my main drive just in case something like this happens. Thing is, for some reason I can’t find the option in Plex server to point to that directory. I did do it a couple of times by I just can’t find it anymore.

So, can someone tell me where that option is in the GUI ?

Thanks !

Mart

There’s no longer a GUI option for that (according to the related release announcement this is due to security concerns). You can still set the directory location using the Registry:

Hi, thanks for the tip, looks like Plex removed the option to do it via then app itself for security reasons. But now I am facing a problem, all my stuff is Unavailable, any idea why ?

Thanks

Now that you’re pointing back to the original(?) server data directory… do the media directories still match (e.g. same drive letters etc.)?

You can click on the Edit icon (pencil) and check the Info tab to see under which path Plex is looking for that file.

Ok, well my bad. Formatting changed my drive letter so I only had to change that, now it’s fine BUT…Now I am having another problem. My server just shows up on my local network and it looks like it’s another server completely. If you look at the screenshots it’s like I have no server and it has been added to my pinned servers.

The libraries in Mart's Movie Heaven don’t seem to be pinned – though I might be wrong if the pins got truncated

Given this is a new install (that happens to point to your old data directory), Plex will treat it as such. Therefore you’ll need to re-pin your libraries in the different clients.

You could also perform the ‘Reset customization’ procedure on all plex clients:

Sorry, I was on vacation, the wife did not let me touch my pc lol.

Ok maybe I’m not explaining this right (I’m french). Thing is, it seems like Plex is not recognizing my server as the main server, it placed it with my pined servers ( friends servers). Locally it is not a problem but no one outside of my network are seeing the server.

I assume this is about remote access, then. Troubleshooting Remote Access | Plex Support

Everything is ok, my server is online and all is green. If you look at the screenshots it looks like plex added my local server to the pined servers I have. First screen shows that I have nothing in Home server but I do have it in my pined servers.

You might have it backwards here. When you click on MORE, you see all servers.
If you click back you see your pinned media sources. (this is the default view)

Currently you don’t have any libraries from your own or shared servers pinned.
So you could do that now.
or, as indicated above, perform the Reset Customization procedure to go again through the first-time setup wizard – which may speed up the process of pinning all the libraries.

I did that and it worked at my end, everything is back to normal. Only thing I could not figure out is why people did not have access to my server anymore. I had to re-give permissions to everybody.

Thanks for all your help, really appreciated.

Because the original server was removed from your account and a new one was created.
This was the cause which made it necessary to pin all the libraries again, and also the new sharing.
