I am not sure what is going on but i use to have homerun device hooked up and worked fine. But lately it was not finding any channels at all. I have not had any issues in a long time. So i decided maybe it was old and that I needed to get a new tuner.
I decided to try something different and in the computer . I bought the wintv-quadhd . It works if I do not use plex. I use the software that came with it wintv 10 and it loads all channels . 50 plus channels are added but the EPG stinks. I thought this is a good sign and just as good as the homerun device . I went and loaded into plex and it only found 6 channels. I am have scanned many times and only finds 6 channels. I do not know why it is not finding all these other channels. I even pick different options in the drop down and changed locations.
I even uninstalled plex and deleted the registry entry in current user. I even went under appdata and local and deleted the plex folder. For the love of me I can not get more channels using plex. Using software that can with the quad card I get more channels.
What am I missing ?
The tv’s with hook ups directly to antenna get all the channels that I expect. A lot more than 6 .
I am almost at the point to reload my computer to see if that fixes it but doubt it.
If there is paid support then I am willing to pay for help. The tuner is on the approved list
Another small update. Even if I just use the 6 channels that plex found. If I go ahead and try to watch the show or channel then it will says could not tune channel. Check tuner or antenna. I know both are working well.
There’s a Windows Service called HauppaugeTVServer that the Hauppauge software starts when you boot up. As I recall, I had to either stop (a one-time fix) or disable that service for Plex to work properly.
Alternatively, if you don’t plan to use the WinTV software, uninstall it – this should remove the service as well. However make sure you have the driver for the QuadHD card installed. There’s a separate download for that on their site.
I removed the whole program to see if that was the issue. Sadly, It still only finds 6 channels in plex. Those channels that it found you can not watch them as it says check tuner or antenna. I know they are working fine as I have coaxial cable to all my tv’s from the antenna and they are picking up the other channels and no issues.
I use plex for the recording of shows . I wish I could test with something else but love the smooth look of plex and the guide.
The drivers are still installed in device manager . So I would assume drivers are working since it worked with the vendor software.
small update. I format the hard drive and then installed only the drivers from the vendor. I then added missing drivers in device manager. Everything went well . I then loaded plex 64 bit version and did a channel scan and I only received 6 channels again.
It was disappointing but it ruled out something else. I really wanted this to work.
Any ideas ?
I know the card is good since I can use another program and it shows me the channels and If I use the tv I am able to see all the channels. The TV’s are all hooked up via coaxial.
Plex will not scan or tune or record any channel which has the “Do not record”-flag applied to it.
(sometimes also indicated in channel listings by the note “copy protected” or “DRM” or similar)
This is done by the broadcaster or cable operator.
A regular TV will show you these channels. (But TVs which also allow recording to an attached USB hard drive will not record those channels.)
Plex does technically always record TV – even if you just stream it to a Plex client.
Therefore Plex is legally not allowed to stream all channels which have the “do not record”-flag on them.
Then why would the HD Homerun be able to to watch on live tv those channels in the plex app and able to record them ? They are able to pick up all those channels with the other device.
I would think the HD Home run would not pick up those channels too.
I am trying to understand how things work and not argue.
I would think both devices would only show six channels. In the other TV view app from vendor it does show the other channels . Also the other channels using the HD Home run I was able to record any channel that it found.
I finally figured it out. It was two things. I must of had a splitter go bad and I swapped it out with a new one. I then put a new coaxial end of the cable while I was at it. Once I did that and ran a rescan then I was able to get 55 channels .
Now I wonder, if I did not even need to buy the other tuner card . Now it is in the computer and hopefully will run a tad better than the hd homerun which I had to power cycle a lot.
I thought i would post the fix here in case someone is running into the same issue.
I am sure it also helped to just install the drivers only for the card. So thanks for that tip.
