Plex Server not showing more details in Audio settings

Yes, it can’t hurt. I’m not 100% sure. I’ve used the original name, but Plex may use the Client name from inside the XML.

The Plex guide also mentions how to confirm that it has taken precedence over the built-in profiles.

From the guide:

How do I know if my user profiles are being used?

If you look at the contents of Plex DLNA Server.log after PMS starts up, you will see entries along the lines of the following:

Jul 08, 2013 13:16:18:024 [47244] DEBUG - Overriding system profile Xbox 360 with user profile
Jul 08, 2013 13:16:18:037 [47244] DEBUG - Reading user profile Xbox 720

The first line indicates an override, the second that a new user profile has been found. If the server has a problem parsing your file, it will report an error and continue execution. So it’s important to double-check the log after you’ve made edits to your user profile files.

After making changes to WDTV Live xml file and storing in the location you suggested it still does not work. However if I play the eac3 movie from my flash drive attached to WDTV Live it works and the RX displays DD+ .

BTW I notice in the Plex Server under DLNA . There is place for entering DLNA client Preferences . Do I need to add something there?

Should I change the original WDTV Live xml at the Resource/profile location ? Afraid to try in case I mess it up.

I check Plex server log and Server did try to read user profile but found error on line 3 …start tag not found “<” I am attaching log for you view. I cant find the error .Plex DLNA Server.log (24.3 KB)

How can there be error because I copied the xml directly from source?

here’s the modified xml file : Western Digital TV Live .txt (2.6 KB)

Please advise Tks

Great progress! It means you’ve got it in the right place.

What did you use to edit the .xml file? I think it tried to make it “pretty” for you, and then it damaged the file.

A few lines from the original.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Client name="Western Digital TV Live">
  <!-- Author: Plex Inc. -->
  <!-- http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705035.pdf -->
  <!-- Model number tested: WDBAAN0000NBK -->
  <Identification>
    <Header name="User-Agent" substring="alphanetworks" />

A few lines from the .txt you uploaded:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

-<Client name="Western Digital TV Live">

<!-- Author: Plex Inc. -->

<!-- http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705035.pdf -->

<!-- Model number tested: WDBAAN0000NBK -->

-<Identification>

<Header name="User-Agent" substring="alphanetworks"/>

Yours has extra linebreaks/spaces. It also has some - characters in front of the <Client...> and <Identification> tags, which are the real problem.

It’s important to either use a “plain” text editor that doesn’t modify anything - good old Notepad works fine - or an XML-aware editor.

XmlNotepad

The eac3 additions themselves look good to me, but I don’t have a WDTV Live to test.

I used plain old Notepad to copy and paste. I also noticed the - before < . I corrected those already and reran the test. This time there was no error in the logs ie it accepted the extra line spaces but the file still refused to play. I think I will edit the file again and remove the extra spaces and see what happens. Will advise.

BTW what is TranscodeTargets in the XML file for ? Tks

Still wont work after cleaning up the spaces. I read the detail debug log for dlna . Many of the moves have no problem with direct play. Some of them plex tries to transcode followed by the following statements:
Cannot direct stream due to profile or setting limitation
Cannot stream due to codac eac3 when profile allows AAC

I am not sure which profile the log is referring to . Any idea ? Maybe I need to add eac3 to transcode target ?

Do you have other DLNA clients? Is this the IP address of your WDTV?

DEBUG - Mapped client to generic profile: Connection: Keep-Alive; User-Agent: User-Agent: Microsoft-DLNA DLNADOC/1.50; Host: 192.168.1.155

That’s the IP of the computer that the Plex media server is installed. WDTV Live has different IP.
I have the Panasonic Viera ST30 DLNA enabled. When I looked again the Plex DLNA server Log , after initialization is complete , the Device is Viera ST30 at XXXXXX will use Panasonic Viera 3D TV profile. Why does it not choose something else like WDTV live ?

I then disabled the Viera DLNA client and tried to play the movie again , the logs still used the Viera ST30 profile. I dont understand .

I finally got it to work ! I had to remove the physical ethernet connector from the Panasonic Viera TV . Then Plex Server mapped the WDTV Live profile instead of the TV’s profile. Movies now play with Eac3 audio :slight_smile: . Not sure why Plex server chose the TV instead of WDTV Live profile .

Need to confirm with another eac3 mkv movie. Confirmed that it is now working properly.
