Have had plex for years and suddenly Plex media server stopped being able to play my media. Whenever I booted up the computer it couldn’t find the server. tried many fixes, but eventually just deleted the entire server and it’s logs to start over. Now that I have it reinstalled, nothing happens when I boot up the app and and in the plex web browser service, it just prompts me to download the media server. It doesn’t recognize that I have already done this. Really Really wish there was a simple way for me to just talk to tech support… very frustrated.
In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through its local IP.
If you’re on the same machine… open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web in your browser. If you’re on a different machine inside your home network, use http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web instead. This will bring up a wizard/dialog where you can name your server and link it to your Plex account (as well as creating your first libraries).
Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
I went to the above http address you mentioned, I am on the same computer i downloaded the plex server on. It is just giving me a continuous spinning circle as if it’s loading. Has been doing this for over ten minutes.
Sorry for the late reply to this, i’ve been out of town. The link continues to just show the spinning icon. Could you identify the problem or perhaps point me towards a dev that can help? I love plex and have used for years, this has really thrown a wrench in the way I’m able to consume media.
Okay this is far more bizarre … I was able to get the media working again, reconnected it and was able to start uploading my torrents again. I got up from the computer … and all of the torrents in my drive have dissapeared. The movies I had just recently added to plex no longer can play because they can’t find the file. I have no idea what could have happened… I know this sounds insane but could I have been hacked?
We’re not discussing file sharing practices in this forum. So I cannot/won’t dig into torrenting.
