Plex Server Sync

Server Version#: Latest
Player Version#: Lastest/ Windows and OSX

Hello,

I have a computer with 2 partitions: Windows and OSX. I have an external HDD where I keep all my media. I was wondering is there a way to sync information for the Plex server between both Operating Systems.

As of now it consists the external HDD as a separate servers depending on on the OS I am logged into (Mac Server/ Windows Server).

If I watch one show in OSX would I be able to transfer it as “Watched” when logged into Windows, for example?

Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Any particular reason for having two PMS servers rather than one and a player on the other? You’re almost hedging on asking for a sync of PMS databases. This is not supported.

This is probably going to fail.
Theoretically you could script something to copy the Plex database back and forth… but you’re already going to get into trouble because the file paths between the two OS don’t match (e.g. D:\Movies\ vs. /Volumes/My External HDD/Movies/).

If you have to boot the system with the different OS and cannot e.g. handle your Windows tasks in a VM within macOS you might be better off using e.g. NAS or separate machine as your Plex Server.

@basilh It seems to have automatically created 2 PMS. As soon as I boot into say “Windows” it states the OSX server is offline and I can only view from the present Windows server.

If it is possible to have 1 server online all the time with my present setup, please let me know.

What you’ve got is a mutually exclusive arrangement. It’s one or the other; you can’t have both.

I’m in the same boat brother. I’ve been looking for a way to use the same files on the same PMS, but no luck yet.

The drive is formatted NTFS, and the directly path i listed the same on both OS X and W10.

I hope they add this as a feature soon.
