Server Version#: 1.43.2.10687-563d026ea
Player Version#: Vizio SmartCast 3.6.0-2608.0003
I recently moved to a new location. The local network stayed the same. I am using the same mesh routers with the same names and IP address. I use Plex apps on several devices. All work as expected except one Vizio Plex App it keeps acting like it is remote from the local server and want to be pay for access. I have another Vizio TV using the app no issues. All the apps on FireSticks no issues. iPhones and iPads no issues. Vizio will not allow you to delete the app, but I did do a reset all Apps but the only result was I need to log into all my apps again. Does anyone have an suggestions?
Actually you can, if you tell the client to use that as its primary DNS server. Since 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 are outside the local network, they don’t apply rebinding protection to a local host address.
Ah, I see what you are getting at. Since the client will be asking for DNS lookups directly the router wont be intercepting the ones that reference internal addresses for security reasons. Thanks for pointing that out.
…but wouldn’t it be easier to just fix the DNS rebind protection on the router’s settings? I know of one specific lineup of routers where there is no setting to allow the owner to turn it off, but that’s not the norm.
The issue is only one Plex App is not working, I have 4 other Plex Apps that work with the current configuration. I would almost say it was the Plex APP on the device but we have 2 TV of the same model and brand using the Plex App and 1 works and one does not.
The dns issue doesn’t always affect all clients the same, even identical TVs. One may work, the other needs the dns changed. Try adding the dns servers mentioned above to the tv directly in its network settings. If that works, and your router allows it, consider changing it on the router as well so all clients on your network use the same dns.
Also, if you don’t use plex remotely, disable plex relay in the plex network settings and disable remote access in the plex remote access settings so that plex doesn’t have a remote path to connect.
Thank You!!! This one Vizio LCD has never been able to see our server unless remote access was enabled. Changing the DNS to a manual external resolution instantly resolved the connection!
Thanks for the suggestion, but that does not fix the issue. With remote access enabled, I am asked to pay for remote access. I have added a Firestick to this TV so Plex is available, it is a workaround.
All the TVs and Firesticks in the house are on the same local network 10.249.1.xxx and work without any changes to their setup. One other TV is also a Vizio, same model just a little smaller.
The TV with the issue worked before we moved.
The entire home local network is the same configuration as our prior home.
