Plex Server Upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314-a0bfb8370
Player Version#: 4.29.2

Hi,

I’m wanting to upgrade my Plex Server from the x86 (32-bit) to x64 (64-bit) version (for no particular reason I might add). When doing so, I get an error with the x64 installer that says it can’t uninstall my x86 version. I did some reading and tried to manually uninstall my x86 version by running the uninstaller from control panel and then deleting the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. registry key and the Plex folder in the %LocalAppData% folder. After doing all that and then restarting the PC, the x64 installer is still somehow thinking I have the x86 version of plex installed.

Can anyone tell me what the installer is looking at to determine if the x86 version of Plex is installed? I’m now back to square one restoring my PC from a backup and have a perfectly running x86 Plex Server. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

This usually happens to people who have been using 3rd-party “registry cleaner” software tools.
Avoid this kind. The last time that something could be gained by doing that was on Windows 3.11
Nowadays it only does damage.

You can try

in order to remove the last traces of the 32bit version from the registry.
