I am on Windows 10 and I have been having issues where my Plex Server (1.11.0.4633) shows offline and when I go onto the box and try to launch plex it acts like it is not running. I have to stop the windows service and then start it back up. It seems like this happens daily for the last few weeks. Yesterday though the service was running but I couldn’t get it to play any media on my Roku, NVidia Shield or even on the server itself over the browser. I have attached my logs and any help would be appreciated as its one of my primary video sources and my wife is getting rather frustrated with me lately. (Sounds similar to this Linux post as well: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/300844/plex-service-needs-a-restart-at-least-once-a-day )
Today the plex service was running and I could get to the Plex Interface via my browser and go through my collection. However when I tried to play a video it would just sit there spinning. I exited plex on the server but the service kept running so I did an End Task on it. Then I restarted plex, went back to the same video and was able to play it just fine.
I updated to 1.11.0.4666 on 12/30/17 4PM Central and I didn’t have to restart the Plex service on 12/31/17. So far today (1/1/18) I haven’t had to restart it and it has been working, hopefully the update fixes it.
Funny. I finally decided to come to the forums today after having this exact same issue for the last week or so and just could not figure it out on my own. Verbose logs files would just stop. Not very helpful.
Anyway, one of the first things I did was switch my update channel from beta to public and just waiting out until the next public version. I also was thinking that the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update also broke something since it installed recently.
But now that I see that 1.11.0.4666 has solved your problem, maybe it will also work for me. I’ll report back if it does.
Thanks for keeping your post updated!
So far, so good…
Yeah I still haven’t had to restart since the 1.11.0.4666 update so that seems to have done it for me.
I’ve been having this problem for about a month now. I haven’t been able to figure out what’s causing it, or any way to reproduce it.
At this point it’s happening about every single day.
I’m running 1.11.0.466 and it’s still happening. It just happened last night.
Sometimes it happens in the middle of watching a video. Other times it happens over night and is offline the next day when we try to play a video.
At this point I’ve had to write a powershell script to check and see if the server returns a 503 error when communicating over http, and if it does, I just reboot the server. Rebooting is the only clean way of making sure everything start correctly every time.
I’ve been having this same problem for ages and its driving me crazy. I believe it started happening after I installed the Windows 10 Creators update.
I would be intrigued to see the powershell script you wrote @hereisoblivion so I can implement something similar.
I have been running plex for over a year now with out a single problem. About a month ago this started happening to me as well. I see there seems to be no fix for this? I just happened to me again tonight and I am running 1.11.3.4803… Any help would be great.
I have since personally switched to running plex on Ubuntu due to windows 10 updates crashing my machine. Same machine running Ubuntu and plex has been running solid for a month or so now.
Is there any helpful info out there to try and solve this problem? My server isn’t crashing its just the Plex Media Service…
Has anyone figured out to solve this issue? I also have to turn my Plex server off and on every day to keep it online!
