Plex, show your customers some respect

Sadly It was confirmed more than 6 months ago that development of the store app had ceased.
Also did you actually check out TV mode in PMP?
The default mode looks like the web app but TV mode is a full blown, fully featured (mostly) media player.

PMP doesn’t work well with touch, barely works with mouse and hasn’t got sync so for anyone using their surface as a touch first device it’s really not a great option. Plex should just pull the app from the windows store and be done with it and work on adding the missing functionality to PMP (as elan has eluded to a few months ago
)
Ironically the fact that Plex had a dedicated windows 8 app at the time was the main reason for me switching to Plex.

Interesting, looks like they’re doing the right thing with this:

The hell they are. Replacing “Sync” with “download”
and they are selling it like it is bigger and better. What they are actually doing is pretty much saying they don’t feel like fixing the sync feature so they are just making it download. So now how you use to be able to tell it to sync 4 unwatched episodes of this show and sit back and let it do its thing, now you will have to click to download those four shows, delete them each as you finish and remember to redownload new episodes. This is lazy crap. How about stop working on the pile of crap known as Tidal and just actually FIX THE SYNC.

What I meant was they’ve finally publicly admitted the store version is dead, pulled it and replaced it with a fairly decent alternative. What you are seeing smells like a bug though.
And of course the display scaling is horribly broken but at least there’s a plex dev replying to issues. Baby steps.

The reason is it called download is because it downloads the file as is rather than transcoding it like the mobile apps usually need to because those cannot play as many file types as this new app can.

The rules like “only last X unwatched” not working correctly is a bug being looked into

so, we are going to be able to “download” under a set certain of circumstances defined by the user? Such as download 3 unwatched episodes of Show A
and it will hold that criteria as it automatically adds and removes downloads on its own? Because the way the blog sounds, that whole feature is not available on the desktop app and is going to be implemented into the mobile apps.

Yes. I already said above that it was a bug

I hope there will be a blog post soon outlining the future plans for the Download feature, particularly on mobile devices.

It would be great to have Download on my android tablet for example as it will be able to quickly download the original HEVC copies of tv shows. However for a mobile device I feel it should still be possible to change the quality for Downloaded content as otherwise storage fills up too quickly, and often you don’t need the original resolution on a smaller screen. I’m thinking of every summer when I’m loading up the kids tablets with cartoons and movies; I’ll need a hell of a lot more storage if I can’t reduce the quality. Fingers crossed this is the way it’s going.

Agreed, and being able to download to external storage would be very useful too. Still, I’m moderately happy that Plex at least seem to be listening and being more active in responding to queries. That said, that’s what they always do when releasing something new, it’s the continued support after that that always seems to be lacking.
