I realise this has been asked before (my Google searches have revealed that), and I also realise that there is no immediate solution unless I’ve missed something.
Due to major buffering issues with my FireTV stick (and I’ve tried the workarounds to no avail), I resorted to the Plex App on my WebOS LG TV. It’s fine with movies, and there’s no buffering at all (so far). However…
As many will know, as soon as you start a picture slideshow, the LG screensaver kicks in after 2 minutes. You cannot disable the screensaver manually (and that applies to many OLED TVs). You have to have access to the remote control to cancel it.
My question (request, whatever) is that surely whatever it is that keeps the screensaver off when playing movies on Plex (WebOS) could also be used to keep it off when an active slideshow is in progress? There’s obviously some ‘keep awake’ signal being passed during movies - can this not be passed during slideshow?
I have a similar issue with the Plex app on a Roku TV…when running a slideshow on the Plex app it times-out after exactly 2 hours. I understand that is much longer than your issue with the LG screensaver after 2 minutes, but mine works fine if it is a video…unfortunately the picture slideshow doesn’t play by the same rules. I have been in contact with Roku but they continue to tell me it is the Plex app/channel that is the issue and nothing with Roku is limiting that timeout period.
I hope someone from Plex could provide some insight to any timeout issues with the slideshow with the fact that videos play continuously.
Why no response from support. There is no one to contact and we get no follow up from this issue. How does anything get resolved with app issues for software we paid for??
Anyone listening??..please respond.
I got round my original problem a different way. Well, two ways, actually.
The first (and easiest/cheapest) was to get an ethernet adapter for my Firestick and just hardwire it. The buffering problem seems to be related to WiFi - though I can’t be 100% certain of that because of the 2nd thing I did.
That was related to running out of storage for my films and TV series. So I purchased a NAS - with the idea that serving from that would also deal with buffering issues. This is a much more expensive solution.
I now have a single ethernet cable running from my router to a 5-port switch (cheap), and the NAS (expensive), Firestick, and TV connected to the switch. I’m also going to connect a second Firestick in a different room when I get time to run the cable.
None of this has anything to do with the original question, though: would it be possible to have PLEX prevent the screensaver on the LG kicking in on slideshows?
