Plex slow load times on local network?!

Good evening everyone! I’m having some problems with my plex server and I can’t seem to figure it out, so I humbly turn to the experts. The problem i’m having is most often when i’m on my LOCAL network (same subnet), movies won’t load. Most of my library is mp4 and ava files, which all load quickly and play perfectly (most of the time) when on a cellular connection (speeds are as expected), or at someone else’s house using their internet connection. However, when i’m at home, they work with little to no reliability. Loading a folder of thumbnails takes several minutes (even if it contains only 4-5 movies), and many movies won’t play at all. some play (after loading the thumbnails), but it’s another several minute wait. I assumed it had to be a router subnet issue, so i put my plex server on the same wifi network as the two iphones i was trying to access it on, and the issue remained the same (so it can’t be a subnet issue?) … i thought it might be a router setting, so i reset everything on the router to default settings, same issue. firmware on wireless router is up to date. i also uninstalled&reinstalled the server application on my computer, as well as the apps on both phones. the hard drive the media is stored on had over 2TB of free space, and the hard drive the server application is installed on has 500GB of free space. i’m at work right now, I will update this post with server version, app info, and all other relevant information that I currently don’t know off the top of my head. I’ve just been racking my brain the past few days as i’ve tried everything i can think of, and i’m stumped. if anyone has any ideas or thoughts i would be eternally grateful! again, server and apps have been recently reinstalled so everything is up to date (and router firmware)… i’ve optimized and refreshed the library from the server computer , restarted the machine it’s on… gah!

solved my own issue. i had to change the playback settings (on each device that wasn’t working) to “original” quality, followed by restarting each app, and things took off and were back to normal. note that devices that never had changes to playback quality never had any issues playing video. something buggy in the new plex apps for iphone?

I had same problem, almost gave up on Plex. I then found some info on the Emby forums and it worked also for my Plex problem. I went into my router set up and assigned a static port of 8096. I have a linksys EA7400 router. Under the security section there was a tab for apps and gaming. Here is a link: https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=140223. For the device IP I found it in the info section in my nvidia shield settings section. Now all my content opens up super fast and starts playing without issue.
