Local plex barely works but remote works with no issues

Will need details to provide any sort of help/advice

Sorry, this is my first-time asking for help. What do you need?

How about we start with a description of whatever the actual issues are.

Ok, so i have my plex server on my windows pc i opened my ports. I have an at&t router, my remote play works just fine. My real issue is on my local network, it takes forever to load if it loads. And when it doesnt load it acts like i dont have a server thats active at all. So basically it acts like you would expect the remote to act but its local. I cant even pull plex up on my phone unless i hope off my wifi.

In Windows, check that the network is private, not public.
Windows 10: Settings → Network & Internet → Status → Properties.
Windows 11 should be similar.
If you change from public to private, then reboot the PC.

Can you play things OK on the Windows PC itself?

The only port needed for remote access is TCP/32400.

Mentioned it because you wrote “ports” not “port.”

If you’ve forwarded other ports in the router they are not needed for remote access.

I will check on the settings, yes the pc plays perfectly. And sorry, only one port it open. I didn’t mean to put the s in port

I just checked, it was set to public, i will chamge it to private and let yall know

That did not fix it, this is what normally happens

This is what it looks like when im off wifi

Did you reboot the PC after switching from public to private? That will ensure both Windows and Plex Media Server pick up the change in the network. You only have to do it once.

Is the phone (or Plex server) on a guest Wi-Fi network? If so, it may be isolated from the rest of the home network. I’ve an AT&T BGW-320 router. Guest Wi-Fi networks default to “Internet Only” which isolates devices from each other and the local network (effectively the same as having network = public in Windows).

Any other Plex clients on the local Wi-Fi - TVs, another PC, etc.? Wondering if anything can stream locally. If so, monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View. Is the stream local, remote, or indirect. It should be local.

With the phone on WiFi, force quit the Plex app (or reboot the phone), then relaunch. It is rare, but sometimes the Plex app does not pick up the switch from the mobile to Wi-Fi networks.

May be DNS rebinding issue when on local network. May want to try a different one like Google DNS

This is an issue we have been dealing with for a few years now, i have tried so many different options and things. Roku doesn’t do it as much as firestick but it still does it. Anything connected to my home internet has issues running plex correctly.

Before i mess with my DNS, why would changing my DNS affect how my home runs even on ethernet.

So, just to help a little more. I also run an IPTV off of my computer of recent months and that service runs just fine in home or away. Also so does my remote desktop software.

It is for some reason just plex.

I have rebooted, Un-installed, changed this, changed that, heck i have even gone and bought a new pc with higher memory, ram, and power.

I know it has to be something simple that i am missing, I’m just not to sure what it could be.

Because that is how Plex is working. https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/
