Plex sorting music artists by last name and first name

I have all my music mp3 files in a file structure like so…

Music
→ Artist
–>Album
—>(track number)-(song title).mp3 file

example
→ Aerosmith
–>Aerosmith
—>(4)-Dream On.mp3

I have all my mp3 tags for artist, album artist and artist correctly tagged with First Last names. But plex seems to pick at random how it is organizing the artists. A few examples below…

Mark Knopfler is sorted under D for “Dire Straits & Knopfler, Mark” even though the songs listed there are his singles and are tagged correctly and dont mention “Dire Straits” anywhere
Rick Astley is sorted under R
Lindsey Stirling is sorted under S
Elvis Presley is sorted under P
Bob Marley is sorted under B
Bob Marley & The Wailers is sorted under M

This can sometimes make it very confusing to know where an artist/band will be sorted. I understand when sorting by an artists “Name” stores usually sort by last name. But can be confusing when an artists name is the same as a band’s name and also other examples. Where does Plex get the “Sort Artist” metadata from?

Probably from the Sort Artist tag (the TSOA/TSO2 frames in id3v2). Load some of these files in a tag editor like Picard/mp3tag/etc and check if that’s the case.
